Production Spec Tata HBX Snapped Testing In Indian Ahead Of Its Launch
The Tata H2X concept was first seen last year at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and the homegrown automaker recently showcased the pre-production model, the HBX (based on the H2X concept), at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, the Tata HBX has been spotted testing a couple of times on our roads.
Recently the Tata HBX was spotted texting again by Thrustzone under heavy wraps. It is slightly difficult to tell what all changes have been made to the body because of the camouflage. But, it is for sure that the production-spec model has stayed true to the one shown at the Auto Expo.
At the front, the car gets a set of LED DRLs, which also act as turn signals that sit on the top, and the headlight unit sits below it on the bumper. The foglights sit right below the headlight unit. The micro SUV carries the brand's signature front grille and a funky alloy wheel design.
At the rear, the HBX gets a set of tail lights which are seen on the Tata Altroz. Along with that, the car gets what looks like a rear fog light, a rear defogger, and a rear wiper along with a washer. The mini-SUV from Tata Motors features the brand's ALFA architecture and is based on the Impact 2.0 design, similar to the Altroz premium hatchback.
On the inside, the Tata HBX is expected to share a majority of its components with the Tata Altroz hatchback, which includes the large touchscreen infotainment system with AppleCarPlay and AndroidAuto connectivity, ambient lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, steering mounted controls, good upholstery and many more.
We expect that the Tata HBX will be powered by the same powertrains which are seen on the Tata Altroz. First is the 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 85bhp of power and 113Nm of torque and on the other hand, there is the 1.5-litre oil burner that churns out 89bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. Both engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. However, Tata could offer an AMT transmission option on the HBX at a later stage.
The Tata HBX will be placed below the Tata Nexon in the company's portfolio and once launched the mini SUV will go up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, the Renault Kwid, and the upcoming 2020 Datsun Redi-GO.
Thoughts On The Tata HBX
Tata has been catering to almost every customer's needs, whether it be small hatches to full-fledged SUVs. We think that the Tata HBX will gain a lot of traction after it is launched as it just fits the perfect space for buyers who are looking for a big car but not too big.
