Noida Police Department Issues 2,000 Challans, Arrests 13 For Lockdown Violations

The Noida Police Department announced that it has penalised owners of over 2,000 vehicles and has arrested 13 people across the area for violating Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. The arrests were made on Wednesday, 15 July.

In addition, the police also impounded 10 vehicles for violations in Gautam Buddh Nagar, an area that has officially reported 35 Covid-19 related deaths so far.

Gautam Buddh Nagar's urban areas are currently a containment zone, and its Administration has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code that allows for no more than four individuals to be assembled together at any point of time.

A statement from the Noida Police Department read, "Five FIRs were registered and 13 people arrested for violating the curbs. A total of 5,008 vehicles were checked across 200 barrier points in the district, and challans issued to 2,009 of them, while another 10 were impounded."

The Department also said that a total of Rs 2.69 lakh was collected via the challans that were issued.

As is, the Noida-Delhi border remains sealed for the general public with exceptions made for essential and emergency services. The police said they will continue to monitor the border until required.

In a similar incident late last month, the Chennai Police Department had seized 7,413 vehicles within a 24 hour period of the lockdown enforced on 15 June. The police also served over 8,000 individuals with notices for violations.

Police personnel had set up multiple checkpoints across the city in order to restrict people movement, and also deployed multiple patrol teams to ensure lockdown restrictions were being followed.

In related news, the Mumbai Police Department is in the process of returning roughly 34,000 vehicles that were seized during the lockdown. Lack of parking and impounding facilities has resulted in the police returning vehicles.

A job well done! As always, the Indians generally do not 'understand' rules, regulations, and laws. Had police departments seized vehicles earlier instead of happily accepting bribes, we'd probably have no one violating lockdown rules today.
