New (2020) Hyundai Creta Vs Old Creta Comparison: Here Are The Differences Explained
Hyundai India has unveiled the new second-generation Creta SUV in the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2020. The new (2020) Hyundai Creta is expected to go on sale in the coming months, with bookings said to begin anytime soon.
The Hyundai Creta is among the most popular mid-size SUV offerings in the Indian market. The SUV has been topping the sales chart for quite a while now. However, over the past couple of months, stiff competitions from newer models in the segment have brought down the sales of the Creta in the Indian market.
The Korean carmaker has finally brought in the second-generation iteration, packed with new features and a completely new design; which they hope will bring back the sales of the SUV in the Indian market.
Ahead of its launch in India, here is a brief comparison between the new Hyundai Creta vs the current outgoing model.
Design
The new (2020) Hyundai Creta comes with a completely revamped design compared to the outgoing model. The new Creta SUV borrows design cues from the international ix25 SUV, which debuted at the 2019 Beijing Auto Show.
Starting with the front, the new Creta SUV now comes with dual headlamp design, with the LED DRLs positioned above the main headlamp cluster. The LED DRLs come in an inverse C-Shape, surrounding the main headlamps which also feature LED projector units.
The headlamps flank a new cascading front grille on the Hyundai Creta. The new front grille is larger and comes surrounded by a thin strip of chrome all around. The grille also comes with horizontal chrome slats, offering a more premium character to the SUV at the front. The front bumpers have also been redesigned and house a new set of fog lamps, a central air intake and silver scuff plates.
The side and rear profile of the mid-size SUV have also been redesigned. The new Creta now comes with silver elements on top of the windows, which extends to the C-Pillar. The new Creta also features more character lines, below the window and over the wheel arches, giving it a more muscular look than before. Hyundai has also brought in a newly-designed set of alloy wheels on the new Creta as well.
The rear design comes with LED taillights as well. The design of the taillights is similar to the headlamps. There is also a thin LED strip at the centre of the boot-lid, along with the new ‘C R E T A' badging positioned below it. The rear bumper also comes with fog lamps/reflectors, reversing lights as well as a silver scuff plate.
Interiors & Features
Hyundai hasn't revealed the interiors of the new Creta. However, the SUV is expected to receive a host of premium updates, both in terms of features and overall quality of materials. We expect the new Hyundai Creta to come with soft-touch materials all around, premium leather seating upholstery for the higher-spec variants, large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a host of other features.
The old/outgoing Hyundai Creta also missed out on the brand's latest connectivity feature, the ‘Blue Link technology', which first debuted on the Venue SUV. This connected technology could be incorporated into the new Creta's infotainment unit.
There are also a host of other safety features as well on the new Hyundai Creta. This includes multiple airbags, pedestrian protection system, ABS with EBD, immobilizer, seatbelt reminder, high-speed alert system and a bunch of others, most of which come as standard across variants.
Specifications
Hyundai has discontinued all old engines which powered the old Creta SUV. This includes the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre diesel and petrol engines. The new Hyundai Creta now comes with the same engines as the Kia Seltos.
The 1.5-litre petrol and diesel and the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine options will power the new Hyundai Creta. The 1.4-litre turbo petrol option though will be available only on the higher-spec models, similar to the Seltos. Transmission options will also be similar to the Kia SUV, this includes a standard six-speed manual with varying automatic gearbox units for the different engine choices.
We expect all three engines on the new Hyundai Creta to produce the same power and torque figures as on the Kia Seltos, although it is yet to be confirmed officially.
Pricing & Rivals
The current-generation Hyundai Creta comes with a starting price of Rs 10 lakh while its top-spec variant is priced at Rs 15.72 lakh. However, Hyundai is expected to increase the prices of the new Creta SUV by a considerable amount. Although not announced yet, we expect the prices for the new Hyundai Creta to start at around Rs 11 lakh; around a Rs 1 lakh more than the current model. All prices are ex-showroom.
The new (2020) Hyundai Creta once launched in the Indian market will continue to rival the same midsize SUV offerings. This includes the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, Renault Duster, Jeep Compass and the MG Hector.
Thoughts On The 2020 Hyundai Creta Vs Old Creta Differences
The 2020 Hyundai Creta comes with a completely revamped design, host of new features and equipment and better performing BS6-compliant engines. While the design is subjective, all other updates on the new Creta make it an attractive offering and better equipped than before to take on its newer rivals.
