New Honda City Receives 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating
New Honda City (2020) receives a 5-star safety rating from the ASEAN NCAP. The Thailand-spec Honda City has been tested for occupant and pedestrian safety by full-frontal impact, offset impact, and side-impact tests.
The Thai-spec Honda City that was tested features a host of safety equipment. These include (G-CON) G-Force Control Body Structure, six airbags, ABS, (EBD) Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), (VSA) Vehicle Stability Assist, hill-start assist, emergency stop signal, and a multi-view reverse camera.
The new City has been tested for full-frontal impact, offset impact, and side-impact tests, along with an evaluation of safety features available on the car. The upcoming sedan scores 44.83 for (AOP) Adult Occupant Protection, 22.85 for (COP) Child Occupant Protection and 18.89 points for (SAT) Safety Assist Technology . The new Honda City has scored 86.54 out of a maximum possible 100, overall.
The Thailand-spec Honda City has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by the ASEAN NCAP twice before. The third-gen and fourth-gen City were also given a 5-star rating in 2012 and 2014, respectively.
Honda is expected to launch the new City (2020) in the Indian market soon. The new Honda City coming to India will be longer, and will offer more ground clearance than the Thai-spec model. The 2020 Honda City is also expected to feature a slight design revision and the company's latest connected technology.
Although not all powertrains options are revealed by the company, the new Honda City will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 119bhp. The engine comes mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT automatic transmission.
Additionally, the 2020 Honda City is also expected to be offered with a BS6-compliant diesel engine. The 1.5-litre diesel engine powering the Honda Amaze could also power the upcoming 2020 Honda City. There could also be a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a mild-hybrid tech powertrain option on offer.
Once launched, the new Honda City will rival the Volkswagen Vento, the Toyota Yaris, the Skoda Rapid, and the Hyundai Verna. The upcoming Honda City will face stiff competition from its main rival, the Hyundai Verna as it offers a host of new features and powertrain options in its new iteration — here are more details.
Thoughts About New Honda City Receiving 5-Star ASEAN NCAP Safety Rating
The new Honda City will now feature the latest technology and offer maximum protection to its occupants. This is good news especially for the Indian market considering the country registers a significant number of road accidents every year. This certainly is a win-win situation for buyers in the segment.
