2020 Honda City Expected India Launch This Month: Here Are All The Details
The 2020 Honda City is ready to be launched in the India market. The launch of the new-generation sedan has been delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the country. Here is a list of things that are expected from the upcoming 2020 City.
The 2020 City is likely to be launched in India sometime during this month and is expected to be sold alongside the outgoing model. The next-generation Honda City will be an all-new sedan with resigned interior and exterior with some changes made under the bonnet.
The new sedan will be a much larger in dimension as compared to the current-gen City. The dimension reads 4,569mm in length, 1,748mm in width, 1,489mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,600mm. This makes it the new City 129mm longer and 53mm wider and 6mm shorter than the outgoing model. However, the wheelbase remains the same as before.
The new-gen Honda City has also been revised with new exterior design. The new LED headlights with integrated DRLs, Z-shaped wrap-around LED tail-lights, reworked bumper design at both ends make the car look more aggressive than the outgoing model. It also features a new design alloy wheels adding to the modern looks of the sedan.
The biggest upgrades on the new-gen model are seen on the Inside. The 2020 Honda City will feature an all-new dashboard design, a new multi-functional steering wheel, a seven-inch full TFT enabled instrument console with analogue dials flanked on either side, and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system will support Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a segment-first Alexa Remote voice assistance feature.
The sedan will feature the brand's connected technology called the ‘Honda Connect' offering a host of option to control the car through a smartphone application. Another significant new feature to be included in the new-gen sedan is a G-meter to measure the cornering forces, which are only found on performance cars. Other features include cruise control, a push-button start with keyless entry, an electric sunroof, and a revised climate control unit with physical rotary knobs.
The refreshed interiors on the new City is expected to offer a premium look and feel to the cabin. Also, the increased dimensions of the car are expected to offer more space on the inside including better leg-room and knee-room for the rear passengers. However, the boot space is expected to remain the same at 510 litres.
The fifth-generation Honda City will see a huge improvement in passenger safety. It is expected to feature a lane-monitoring camera on the left-wing mirror that will relay feed to the centre screen. Additionally, the next-gen sedan will also feature traction control, an electronic stability programme, hill-start assist, a (TPMS) Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, six airbags, and more.
Speaking about the changes made under the bonnet, the 2020 Honda City will be offered with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre (DOHC) Double Over-Head Cam engine will produce 120bhp and 150Nm of torque — 2bhp and 5Nm more than the older-gen (SOHC) engine. The 1.5-litre diesel unit will churn out 100bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both engines are expected to be offered with a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional CVT automatic transmission.
As mentioned before, Honda plans to sell the fifth-generation Honda City alongside the current-gen model in the Indian market. The new Honda City is expected to be available only in three variants — V, VX and ZX. With all the new changes and added features to the new sedan, it is expected to receive a substantial price increase as compared to the current-gen model.
Thoughts About The 2020 Honda City Expected To Launch This Month
Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, many of the product launches have been delayed in the country, including the new Honda City. However, we expect the Japanese automaker to launch its highly anticipated model in the Indian market within this month. The Honda City rivals the new Hyundai Verna, the Skoda Rapid, the Volkswagen Vento, and the Toyota Yaris in the Indian market.
