New Helmet Rule Imposed In Karnataka: Revised Guidelines For Children On Two-Wheelers
Karnataka Government has issued a circular and updated the helmet rules and guidelines for two-wheeler users across the state. According to the circular, driving licence of two-wheeler users in violation of helmet rule will be cancelled for three months.
Additionally, violators will also have to pay a hefty fine for not wearing a crash helmet while travelling on their motorcycle or scooter in the state. The decision has been taken following a direction by the Supreme Court-appointed road safety committee, which held a meeting with the chief secretary and other stakeholders.
The circular also states that any children above four years must be wearing a helmet while commuting on a two-wheeler. Failing to obey will also result in penalty and cancellation of driving licence.
State Department of Transport, Karnataka, said, "As per new directives, helmets are mandatory for all two-wheeler riders who are over four years of age. State govt has imposed a 3-month suspension of driving license along with a penalty in case of violation."
The government has also announced that the necessary changes to the Section 194D of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 have been made to update the cancellation of driving licence. It also announced that all RTOs will have to update details suspended driving licenses of two-wheeler users who are in violation of the rule, by the fifth day of every month.
The helmet rule mandates the use of a crash helmet for both rider and the pillion rider as well. This is help reduce the number of deaths when a two-wheeler is involved in accidents. Injuries sustained to head are often very hard to recover as it is one of the most sensitive areas in the human body. Wearing a crash helmet will give confidence and peace of mind to two-wheeler users.
Thoughts About The New Helmet Rule Imposed In Karnataka
Two-wheeler commuters are prone to more injuries when involved in an accident, especially when not wearing a helmet. As a result, the government is making all efforts to crack down on helmet violation across the state and help decrease the number of deaths from accidents.
