Citroen C5 Aircross To Be The First Of Four New Products In India: Here Are All The Details
Citroen confirmed its plans to enter the Indian market last year. The French carmaker also announced that the C5 Aircross will be the first product from the brand in the Indian market as well. The Citroen C5 Aircross once launched in India will rival the likes of the Kia Seltos and the MG Hector.
The Citroen C5 Aircross was supposed to have been introduced in the Indian market by now. However, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown in the country, Citroen decided to defer the launch to the first quarter of 2021.
According to Gaadiwaadi, post the launch of the C5 Aircross SUV launch in India, Citroen is also looking at three new models in the country. The new models are said to be designed and developed in India itself — part of Citroen's C-cubed program.
Reports suggest that the three new models will be part of the compact-SUV, premium hatchback and C-segment sedan segment in the Indian market. Among these, the compact-SUV model, codenamed ‘C21' will be the first to launch.
The C21 model will be the second model in the country, following the C5 Aircross and will take on rivals such as the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and the upcoming Kia Sonet. The two other models will be launched at a later stage, one model every year.
Coming back to the brand's first model, the C5 Aircross, the SUV will be positioned in the mid-size SUV segment of the Indian market. The SUV will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. This includes two diesel units and a single petrol engine offering.
The smaller diesel and the petrol engines come in the form of a 1.5-litre unit, both producing around 128bhp. The larger diesel engine, however, churns out 178bhp and comes in the form of a 2.0-litre unit. The SUV will come with both manual and automatic transmission options.
Thoughts About Citroen Planning Four New Models For India
Citroen had initially planned to have entered the Indian market by now with the C5 Aircross SUV. However, the unprecedented crisis of COVID-19 has deferred the plans from the French carmaker.
