MG Hector Plus Spotted Testing Ahead Of Launch: Spy Pics & Other Details
The MG Hector Plus has been spied testing ahead of its launch in India. The upcoming three-row SUV from the company has resumed its testing and is expected to be launched sometime during this year.
The spy images from Rushlane reveal a heavily camouflaged mule testing on the streets of India. The Hector Plus was spotted testing near the MG's Halol plant in Gujurat. The images also reveal the extended profile at the back which is different from the standard Hector model.
MG Motor India had showcased the Hector Plus SUV at this year Auto Expo in Delhi. As a result, some of the changes made to the extended SUV as compared to the standard Hector model has been revealed ahead of its launch.
Talking about the Hector Plus, the three-row SUV is based on the standard model of the Hector. There some changes made to the extended-SUV starting with a 40mm increase in overall length to accommodate third-row seating and legroom, however, the length of the wheelbase is unchanged from the standard model.
The model showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo did not feature any of the chrome accents at the front of the SUV as seen on the standard Hector model. Other changes to the exterior include gloss-black finish surrounding the LED DRLs and the front grille, and redesigned headlamps cluster; among others. At the rear, the red reflector which connected the two tail lamps on the five-seater model has not been carried forward on the Hector Plus SUV.
On the inside, the Hector Plus borrows most of its features and equipment from the standard model. This includes the dashboard layout, large touchscreen infotainment screen, instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof and the brand's ‘iSmart' connected technology as well.
The Hector Plus is expected to be offered in two seating configurations with the addition of third-row seating. Customers will have an option to choose between a six-seater version with captain seats in the middle-row, and a regular seven-seater variant with a standard bench seat on the second-row.
There are no mechanical changes expected on the Hector Plus model as compared to the standard Hector. MG will offer the Hector Plus with 1.5-litre turbo petrol 2.0-litre diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol produces 115bhp and 250Nm of torque, while the 2.0-litre diesel churns out 173bhp and 350Nm of torque.
The petrol engine is also offered with an optional 48V mild-hybrid system. Both engines come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with an optional seven-speed DCT offered with the petrol variants.
As lockdown restrictions have started to ease down, MG is resuming its production and retail operations in the country. The company has also announced that the launch timeline for the Hector Plus model has not been affected and is still on-track for the launch sometime during the next two months.
Once launched, the MG Hector Plus will rival the Mahindra XUV500, and the upcoming Tata Gravitas; among other three-row SUVs in the Indian market. The standard Hector is well packed with features, however, some additions are expected such as an air-con vent for third-row passengers with the new model. As a result, the Hector Plus will be priced more than the standard model.
In related news, MG is also working on introducing another SUV in the Indian market. Called the Gloster, is a premium SUV that is confirmed to launch in the Indian market. Once launched, the SUV will rival the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4.
The upcoming SUV is based on the company's Maxus D90 model that is currently on sale in the international markets. MG showcased the Gloster SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo alongside the Hector Plus, and have now confirmed that the launch timeline is unaffected despite the nation-wide lockdown in the country — here are more details.
