MG Hector Petrol Vs Diesel Sales Report: More Customers Prefer Petrol-Powered Hector Variants
MG Motor India entered the Indian market back in June 2019 with the Hector SUV. The MG Hector instantly became popular in the country, receiving an overwhelming response right from the start. The mid-size SUV brings-in consistent volume sales every month, averaging around 2,500 units.
According to a 2019 sales report by Autopunditz, the MG Hector registered a total sales of 15,930 units between June and December. Among this, the petrol-powered Hector sales accounted for just over 57% of the total sales with 9,110 units. The diesel-powered MG Hector, on the other hand, registered 6,820 units, accounting for just under 43% of the sales.
This clearly shows that customers prefer the petrol-powered Hector more than its diesel variant. The reason for the preference for the petrol engine could be due to the multiple configurations the petrol unit is available in.
MG Motors India offers the petrol engine with the choice of a 48V hybrid motor as well, which improves initial low-end performance. The petrol engine is also offered with a choice of either a manual or automatic transmission unit. The diesel powertrain, on the other hand, is offered with just a manual gearbox.
Talking about the engine, the MG Hector is offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. It produces 143bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. The engine comes paired with the optional 48V mild-hybrid technology as well. MG offers the Hector petrol with a standard six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT automatic transmission unit.
The diesel engine on the MG Hector comes in the form of a 2.0litre unit. It produces 173bhp and 350Nm of torque, paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission. MG Motors recently introduced the BS6-compliant versions of the Hector SUV in the Indian market.
Thoughts On The MG Hector Sales In India
The MG Hector offers more options on the petrol-powered variant, especially in terms of gearbox choices. The MG Hector is a large SUV and rivals the likes of the Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 and the Tata Harrier and comes with a starting price of Rs 12.37 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
