Maruti WagonR Electric Hatchback Spied Again Ahead Of Launch: Spy Pics & Other Details
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch its first fully-electric model in the Indian market. The company has confirmed that it will be an electric version of the WagonR hatchback that is currently on sale in the Indian market.
We have reported the upcoming electric hatchback under testing several times. The latest spy images from IndianAuto showcase a completely camouflaged mule, testing on the streets of Gurugram in Haryana.
Earlier to the current testing phase, the company also introduced 50 JDM-spec prototypes in the country last year which is undergoing various tests under different conditions. We also expect that the upcoming WagonR electric to launch for commercial use and fleet management. It is also expected to be launched in the Indian market sometime next year.
Although not many details of the electric hatchback have been revealed by the company, we expect it to borrow most of the design cues from its third-generation gasoline-powered sibling. However, we have noticed a few changes that will be made specific to the WagonR electric.
It will feature an all-new front facia with a split-headlamp design. The (DRL) Daytime Running Lights are placed next to the grille, while the projector headlamps will be placed on the bumpers. It will also feature a set of fog lamps that will be placed below the main headlamps. Also, the grille will be revised with a new design as well.
The overall silhouette and the tall-riding design of the WagonR hatchback are expected to be carried forward from the IC engine powered model. This will help in enhanced cabin space as compared to the conventional hatchback design. We also expect the electric hatchback to feature 15-inch alloy wheels, similar to the ones seen on Ignis hatchback.
On the inside, the electric hatchback is expected to carry most of its features from the standard model. This includes a touchscreen infotainment display with the brand's latest SmartPlay connectivity, a new steering wheel design with mounted controls, climate control, and a dual-tone interior theme; among others.
The company is yet to reveal the specifications, range and performance of the electric powertrain of the hatchback. However, the electric hatchback is expected to come with both standard and fast-charging capabilities. Charging the hatchback via a standard charger is expected to take seven hours to completely charge the batteries, while the fast-charger is expected to juice up the battery from 0 to 80 per cent charge in one hour.
There are only a few electric four-wheelers that are currently on sale today. Most of its are placed above the 10 lakh mark. However, when the Maruti Suzuki WagonR electric is launched in the Indian market it is expected to be priced aggressively. It will rival the Tata Tigor EV and the Mahindra KUV100 electric when launched.
Thoughts About The Maruti WagonR Electric Hatchback Spied Again Ahead Of Launch
Maruti Suzuki is looking to bank on the growing demand for electric vehicles in the country. The company is extensively testing the electric hatchback before its launch and is expected to be nearing its launch. Whether the WagonR electric will feature some form of regenerative braking to improve the range, remains to be seen.
