Maruti Suzuki Dispatches 6.70 Lakh Cars Via Indian Railways In Over Six Years
The country's largest auto manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced that it has transported over 6.70 lakh cars via the Indian Railways over the last six years. The brand dispatched the first lot of cars on double decker flexi-deck rakes in March 2014.
In the process, the brand has witnessed a compound annual growth rate of 18 percent, and has offset almost 3,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. Maruti also announced that using the Indian Railways has helped save over 1 crore litres of fuel, by means of avoiding 1 lakh truck journeys.
Maruti dispatched 1.78 lakh cars via rail during the last financial year - a 15 percent increase from the financial year 2018-19. The brand says that this accounts for 12 percent of the total sales for the year.
Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at Maruti Suzuki India, said, "Considering the increasing volumes, our team felt the need for large scale logistics flow. We realised that not only for expansion but also for risk mitigation we have to look beyond road mode logistics."
In Maruti related news, the brand launched a Monsoon Campaign initiative for its customers. The brand offers a complimentary monsoon-ready health check for customer's cars via the initiative.
The primary aim of the campaign is to ensure optimum performance of the vehicles. Vehicles will be checked by company certified technicians via a comprehensive checklist to ensure that owners have a trouble-free driving experience during monsoon.
The comprehensive checklist includes parts such as wiper blades, brake pads, brake fluid, and the air conditioning evaporator and cleaner among others. Maruti will replace damaged parts with genuine spares only. Customers can avail this offer until the end July this year. To know more, click here.
Thoughts About MSIL Using The Indian Railways To Dispatch Cars Across The Country
Most responsible manufacturers use the railway network to dispatch vehicles across the country. While the volume isn't as large as those dispatched via road, it certainly helps reduce one's carbon footprint. India has one of the largest rail networks in the world. We think MSIL can transport more than just 12 percent of its sales volumes via rail.
