Maruti Sales Milestone: Company Registers Over 5 Lakh Units In Collective Sales Of BS6 Units

Maruti Suzuki has announced that they have registered collective sales of over 5 lakh units of their BS6 models. The company is enjoying benefits of being the first manufacturer to switch to BS6 specifications before the 1 April deadline.

The Indo-Japanese manufacturer has rapidly expanded its BS6 offerings and most of their vehicles have been upgraded to meet the new emission rules and regulations. The company's BS6 models account for close to 75 percent of its total sales.

The country's largest car maker had launched the 1.2-litre DualJet BS6 complaint petrol engine mounted in the Baleno during April last year. The company also upgraded its 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine as well.

That was quickly followed with upgrades made to the Alto 800, the Swift, the Dzire, and the WagonR models. The Swift, the Dzire and the WagonR range of cars feature a 1.2-litre petrol engine. All these vehicles are BS6 compliant.

The company's MPV, the Ertiga, became the sixth car to be receive a BS6 upgrade to its 1.5-litre mild hybrid engine that produces 102bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. The engine is also featured in the company's XL6 models.

Maruti then launched their super hit mini SUV, the S-Presso, with a BS6 compliant engine. The tiny vehicle is one of the company's best selling models, and is now being exported to international markets.

Other Maruti models that feature BS6 compliant engines are the Eeco, and the Celerio. That's a total of 10 BS6 compliant vehicles across a range of segments.

Maruti Suzuki took a total of nine months to achieve this feat. Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer at MSIL says that an early introduction of BS6 compliant engines represents the company's commitment and vision for a greener environment.

The next vehicle from Maruti's stable that will be launched soon, and will feature a BS6 complaint engine is the brand's Vitara Brezza model. The vehicle is expected to arrive with minor cosmetic and visual differences.

Maruti will then upgrade the S-Cross models with a BS6 compliant engine. Expectations are that the Vitara Brezza and the S-Cross will feature the 1.5-litre SHVS petrol engine that is featured in the company's Ertiga and XL6 models.
