Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS Discontinued: Company Unlists Vehicle On Website
Maruti Suzuki has officially discontinued the Baleno RS model, and has unlisted the vehicle from its website. The company launched its premium hatchback, the Baleno, in India back in 2015. The car was a great success for the company and just after two years, in 2017, Maruti launched the Baleno RS, which was a more powerful version of the existing car.
The decision comes after lack of demand for the hatchback. Some units of the Baleno RS are still up for grabs at certain dealerships across the country and it is expected to be sold at a lower price in order to finish stocks.
At the time of the launch, the Baleno RS carried a price tag of Rs 8.69 lakh. Last year, the RS got a facelift and was priced at Rs 8.76 lakh, making the vehicle pricier than others in the segment. Seeing the low demand for the performance hatchback, Maruti has slashed the price to Rs 7.89 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom.
So, how does one distinguish a Baleno RS from a regular Baleno? The RS is slightly different from the front end of the regular Baleno.
The RS gets a different mesh grille and tweaked front bumper which accentuates the car's sporty nature. The Baleno RS also has wraparound fog lamp clusters, underbody spoilers, and a blacked out interior. Except for these changes, the performance hatch more-or-less remains the same as the regular hatchback.
Mechanically, the Baleno RS uses Marutis 1.0-litre three-cylinder Booster Jet engine, which is a direct import from Japan. The engine is capable of producing 100bhp of power and 150Nm of peak torque.
It comes mated to the standard five-speed manual gearbox as well. The car can catapult from a 0kmph to 100kmph in 11.4 seconds, which is pretty decent, and has a top speed of 199 km/h, which is electronically locked.
Thoughts On The Baleno RS Being Discontinued
Well, the Baleno RS is a wonderful performance hatch as far as the acceleration and handling go. If you are getting one at a cheap rate from the dealership, we would recommend this car to buyers who love speeding around. We also think Maruti will offer more discounts on the existing stocks of the Baleno RS.
