Mahindra High-Spec Ventilators Ready For Production: To Treat Covid-19 Patients

After the nation-wide lockdown was announced in the country, Mahindra's manufacturing facilities across the country stopped functioning. The company channeled its resources into making various kinds of medical equipment that will help medial practitioners treat patients affected by the Covid-19 virus in the country.

Mahindra Engineers have partnered with a Bengaluru-based healthcare organization called Skanray. The joint project aimed to simplify and develop ventilator designs, and scale up the capacity. Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, took to Twitter to announce the news about the production-ready high-spec ventilator.

Dr. Goenka's tweet stated that the team has few machines ready to go into production. However, as there are no orders for the ventilators, the company has not begun the production of these ventilators and they are glad about it as well.

Adding to this, the Chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra also tweeted replying to Dr. Goenka's feelings. He expressed his appreciation to Skanray and the entire team who contributed in making these Ventilators calling it an outstanding achievement.

The company had undertaken two forms of approach towards the development and production of ventilators. One included a high-spec ventilator development and production along with two large public sector units and Skanray. On the other hand, the company has also been working on a cost-effective automated version of the AMBU bag ventilator.

The company consulted a team of ten doctors and a few biomedical engineers, who helped the company to design and manufacture the low-cost ventilator. Also, Mahindra has made the designs available to anyone who wants to manufacture these affordable devices.

In related news, the TVS Group along with IIT-Madras have developed a low-cost AMBU bag ventilator called the ‘Sundaram Ventago'. The device has been developed to treat the Covid-19 affected people in the country and is primarily aimed at rural areas where there are no proper ventilators.
