The race started off well for Racing Point, with both Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez holding on to the top-2 positions during the first half of the race. Sebastian Vettel who started from 14th on the grid, was quick to make up places in the first lap. The spin from Max Verstappen further helped Vettel quickly enter the top four, with Hamilton behind him.

As the race progressed, the track quickly began to dry up at certain places, allowing drivers to change from full wets to intermediate tyres. This tyre change allowed both Ferrari drivers to find pace. Lance Stroll who was leading the race, however, suffered heavy graining which resulted in him losing out massively.
