Land Rover Defender SUVs Have Been Deployed To Fight Against The COVID-19 Pandemic
As we all know that since the COVID-19 pandemic has struck the globe hard, a lot of manufacturers are coming up with different strategies to help in whatever way they can. Land Rover has put its SUVs to proper use by providing a number of them to organisations such as the Red Cross to aid them in the fight against coronavirus.
Moreover, the brand's Twitter account stated, "A global crisis requires a global response so we're doing our best to support the true heroes of the #Covid19 pandemic by providing 143 vehicles worldwide, with 105 vehicles supplied to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies."
Among the vehicles that have been provided to these organisations by JLR are 57 Land Rover Defenders which are being used by the British Red Cross, while an unconfirmed number of Discoverys have also been provided to the UK Health Authorities so that they can conduct home testing. The company has furthermore sent the Range Rover Velar and even sister brand's Jaguar F-Pace - to the Spanish Red Cross to help them reach people in exposed and far-off areas of the country.
JLR recently launched the Land Rover Defender in the Indian market and the SUV will be offered in both the 90 (3-door) and 110 (5-door) variants and will be imported into the Indian market via the CBU route.
Powering both the variants of the Defender in India will be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder BS6-compliant petrol engine producing 292bhp of power and 400Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired with a standard automatic transmission unit. However, Land Rover could bring in a larger and more powerful 3.0-litre petrol engine on the Defender at a later stage as well.
Also, just so we know how competent this car is, the new Defender is capable of carrying a maximum payload capacity of 900kg, water wading depth of 900mm and a towing capacity of 3.2 tonnes. Also, the air suspension system on the new Defender SUV can raise itself by 145mm during extreme off-roading.
Thoughts On the New Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender is one of the most capable and iconic off-roaders in the world and during this time of a global pandemic JLR by offering the SUVs to organisations such as the Red Cross to aid them in the fight against coronavirus is a great deed.
