Kia Motors India has begun deliveries of the recently launched Sonet compact-SUV across the country. The first batch of customers who have booked the SUVs have begun to receive the Sonet SUV in India.

However, the company is yet to reveal the prices of its top-spec GTX+ DCT and diesel AT models. According to recent reports, the company is expected to reveal the prices of the top-spec SUV sometime in coming weeks. Kia has done this in the past, where the prices for the top-spec Seltos trims were revealed few days after its launch in India.

At the time of the Sonet launch, the company also announced that it has received over 25,000 bookings in total. The company also confirmed that it received an average of 1000 units per day, until launch from the second day of pre-bookings getting started.

According to the company, it has received a majority of bookings for the Sonet on its top-spec GTX+ trims. Despite the increase in demand, the company is yet to announced the prices for the top-spec trims of the compact-SUV. We expect Kia Motors to price the GTX+ DCT and diesel AT models at around Rs 12.99 lakh, ex-showroom (India).

The waiting period for the GT-line variant is currently between 4 and 5 weeks, while the Tech-Line models have a slightly higher waiting period of 8 to 9 weeks. The wait times will get lesser as the production could increase in the coming weeks.

After receiving an overwhelming response for the Kia Sonet, the company aims to sell around 1.5 lakh units of the compact-SUV within the first year, locally and in exports. Kia Motors will be exporting the Sonet to over 70 countries from India and aims to ship 50,000 units within the first year of launch.

The Sonet is being offered with two petrol and two diesel engine options. The petrol engines vary in displacement, with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit and 1.0-litre turbo-charged petrol unit.

The 1.2-litre unit produces 84bhp and 115Nm of torque and comes mated to a standard five-speed manual. While the top-spec 1.0-litre unit produces 119bhp and 172Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a seven-speed DCT or a six-speed (iMT) intelligent Manual Transmission, as seen on the Hyundai Venue.

However, the diesel unit's will remain identical in terms of cubic capacity but will feature different turbo technology for varying power output.

The 1.5-litre diesel engines will feature a (WGT) Waste-Gate Turbo and a (VGT) Variable Geometry Turbo. The 1.5-litre WGT produces 99bhp/240Nm of torque, while the superior VGT engine produces 114bhp and a peak torque of 250Nm.

The diesel with WGT engine will be offered with a standard six-speed manual transmission, while the top-spec VGT equipped unit will come mated to a six-speed torque converter automatic.
