Hyundai India Exports Over 5,000 Cars In May After Resuming Operations
Hyundai Motor India has exported over 5,000 cars since it has resumed operations after the nation-wide lockdown was eased earlier this month. The company had to temporarily suspend its entire operations to ensure the wellbeing of its workforce during the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic.
The company has closed the previous financial year (FY 2020) as the No. 1 passenger vehicle exporter in the country. Hyundai currently exports ‘Made-In-India' cars to 88 countries across four continents.
The South-Korean auto manufacturer began its export operations in the country back in 1999. It has exported over three million cars in 20 years and has become one among the leading exporters in the country.
In 2019, Hyundai customized 792 models to suit the preference and demand depending on the country and exported 1,81,200 units. It owned 26 per cent of the total passenger vehicles that were exported from India during CY2019.
The company exports its cars to multiple countries across Africa, Middle-East, Latin America, Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Hyundai organized an Internationa Partner's Meet back in 2019 at the Buddh F1 circuit in Delhi. More than 60 of the company's global partners attended the event from different countries including South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Vietnam, Chile, Peru and Columbia; among others.
The company also explored many new markets like Ethiopia, Zambia and Ghana to export its entry-level Santro hatchback which is called as ‘Atos' in international markets. The partners present at the event also had a look at the company's latest product line-up — the Venue, Grand i10 Nios, and the Santro; among others.
Speaking at that event, S S Kim, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said, "We began our export operations in India in 1999 intending to propagate ‘Make in India - Made for the World'. In line with our global strategy, we have now exported more than 3 Million vehicles to 88 countries which reaffirm our commitment to the country."
He further added, "We have once again made a humble beginning towards normalcy by exporting more than 5 000 units in May 2020. This is a testimony of Hyundai's resilient efforts towards localization and to accentuate economic recovery. Drawing strength from Hyundai's vision of ‘Progress for Humanity' we will continue to offer an all-round premium experience to our customers through our quality products, both in India and global markets."
Hyundai exports 10 models that are manufactured at the company's facility in Chennai. This includes the Santro AKA Atos, Grand i10, Xcent, Grand i10 (Nios) and Grand i10 (Aura), Elite i20, i20 Active, Accent (Verna), Venue and the 2020 Creta.
As mentioned before the company exports ‘Made-In-India' cars to 88 countries in 4 continents that includes 33 countries in Latin America, 28 countries in Africa, 26 countries in Asia Pacific, and one country in the European continent.
The company aims to increase the export number in the coming years to retain the title of No.1 passenger vehicle exporter in the country. Speaking about the company's aim and future plans, Hyundai has lined up slew vehicles that will be launching in the Indian market.
