Honda Is Likely To launch The New-Generation City Alongside Current Models

Honda is planning to sell the outgoing Honda City sedan alongside the new models at the same time. This news was confirmed according to a report by Autocar India. Moreover, the new Honda City is likely to get a suffix in the Indian Market, just like the new City in Thailand is called the City Turbo. Unfortunately, the turbo petrol variant is not going to make its way to our shores.

Honda has made some significant changes to the exterior of the new-gen Honda City sedan. The car now features new LED headlights, and Z-shaped wrap-around LED tail-lights. The bumper design has also been revised at both ends and the car features new alloy wheels.

On the inside, the 2020 Honda City will get features such as a new eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It is also the first car in India to feature the Alexa Remote voice assistance feature. It will also receive a new semi-digital instrument cluster that has a seven-inch, HD, full-colour MID with an analogue speedometer, and tachometer on either side of the display.

The leaked brochure also reveals that the top-spec trim of the new City will feature a new exterior design, upgraded interiors and more safety equipment. It will also receive a lane-monitoring camera mounted on the outside rear-view mirror as seen on the Honda Civic.

As far as safety goes, the next-gen sedan will also feature traction control, an electronic stability programme, hill-start assist, a low-tire-pressure warning system, six airbags and a reverse camera with assist function.

Mechanically, the new Honda City will be offered with two BS6 compliant engine options. A 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 117bhp of power and 145Nm of peak torque. It will also be available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 100bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a CVT automatic.

Since its inception in India, Honda City has always been a very successful model for the company. However, the new 2020 model looks very refreshing and offers a host of features that will help it gain traction in the market. Once launched, the new City will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Toyota Yaris, the Volkswagen Vento, and the 2020 Skoda Rapid.
