Honda was supposed to launch the fifth-generation City earlier this year, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the launch had to be postponed. The company will be launching the all-new fifth-generation Honda City on July 15, 2020, in the Indian Market.

However, according to a report by Overdrive, the company is likely to introduce the Honda City RS (a turbo-petrol variant) alongside the fifth-generation Honda City in India. The Honda City RS is already available in Thailand. Mechanically, the RS variant uses a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo VTEC engine. The unit produces 121bhp of power and 173Nm of peak torque and is mated to a seven-step CVT gearbox which is also offered in the petrol City in India.

Compared to the regular City, the RS version also gets quite a few cosmetic and feature upgrades that include a blacked-out grille with RS -badging and a honeycomb pattern, a sportier bumper with slatted fog-lamp inserts, an Ignite Red paint job option, new 16-inch alloy wheels, a different rear bumper, blacked-out mirrors and a rear spoiler.

On the inside, the City RS gets an all-black interior, aluminium pedals and red contrasting stitching. Other than this many of the features of the Indian car will be available with the City RS.

Mechanically, the 2020 Honda City is offered with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC (DOHC) produces 120bhp of power and 145Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit churns out 100bhp of power and 200Nm of peak torque. Both the units come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, with an optional seven-speed CVT automatic transmission offered on the petrol variants only.
