Honda BR-V Discontinued From Indian Market: No Plans To Introduce BS6 Update Yet!

To give you an exact number, the company sold around 20,000 units in FY2017, then 11,563 units in FY2018, 5,213 units in FY2019 and only 1,959 units of the BR-V in FY2020 till the end of January this year. And as one can see from the units sold over the years has declined drastically, leading to the discontinuation.

Globally, Honda offered the BR-V in five and seven seater versions. However, in the Indian market, the car was offered only with the seven-seat configuration. The BR-V featured LED projector headlamps with DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, an LED tail light guide, leather upholstery, paddle shifters, and a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, AndroidAuto, and AppleCarplay.

The Honda BR-V in India was available in the E, S, V, V CVT and VX trims, with prices starting at Rs 9,52,900 (ex-showroom) and we most likely won't see a new generation of the BR-V hitting the Indian Shores. While the car did not do too well in the Indian market, it has been a popular choice for buyers in markets like Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.

The Honda BR-V was available with both a petrol and a diesel engine. The petrol unit was a 1.5-litre i-VTEC capable of pumping out 117bhp of power and 145Nm of peak torque and came mated to a six-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine churned out 99bhp of power and 200Nm of torque and was coupled with a six-speed manual transmission only. Also, the BR-V wasn't updated to meet the more stringent, BS6 norms.

Thoughts On The Honda BR-V Getting Discontinued

The Honda BR-V was overall a good car when it came to comfort, space and features; Even though the diesel engine gave a brilliant fuel economy of around 22km/l, the car did not strike a chord with the Indian crowd, which led to declining units over the years and now finally it has been discontinued.
