China-based auto manufacturer Haima Automobile's arrival into the Indian market has been delayed. There are several reasons behind the delay, chief among which is the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the latest reports from ET Auto, the timelines have been moved further because of the pandemic. Also, the current tension between the nations due do the recent attacks in Galwan Valley has rising anti-China sentiments, which is also one among the many reasons behind the debut.

Haima looks to enter into the Indian market by partnering with Bird Electric, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delhi-based Bird Group. Both brands entered into a technical collaboration to introduces affordable electric four-wheeler in the country. Both brands were present at the 2020 Auto Expo and showcased its first electric hatchback called the EV1 which is expected to be priced around Rs 10 lakh.

Speaking about the current delay, Ankur Bhatia, Director, Brid Electric stated that the design phase of the upcoming electric hatchback has been delayed due to the countrywide lockdown. The restricted movement has further added to the delay in finalizing the design for the electric car as people could not travel across countries.

He further stated that, when the design phase reaches the final stage, the company will have a clear idea about the next steps and aims to make some substantial progress towards the upcoming electric hatchback. Mr Bhatia is also confident about meeting the launch timeline for the electric car and make the car commercially available.
