Bugatti Announces Temporary Suspension In Production Of Chiron And Divo Models
French high-performance car manufacturer, Bugatti, has announced a temporary suspension of production of their Chiron and Divo models at their Molsheim facility. The company however, has kept its testing department open.
In addition, the company has been channeling its work from home force towards product development. Lars Fischer, a 48-year old engineer working with Bugatti since 2011 said that the company was testing vehicles.
Mr Fischer said, "Although we are not working in the office at present, we are constantly developing the vehicles further and driving numerous kilometers at the test sites and on public roads. This means we are still on schedule."
"At the moment, we agree every morning on which applications we want to test over the next two days so that we can react quickly to new situations. Normally we would plan our tasks in advance on a weekly basis," he added.
Bugatti usually has two engineers test driving their Chiron and Divo models in order to tick everything over their checklist, and to record results in real-time. The company now has just one engineer working on one model — in order to keep their engineers safe and healthy.
Sven Bohnhorst, a 31-year old Steering and Damping Calibration Specialist said, "Since we always maintain the recommended safe distance from our colleagues and this is not possible in a car, we are currently driving solo."
This of course reduces productivity — the sole engineer testing the cars has to stop to change certain test parameters every now and again. This means that calibration takes 30 per cent longer.
Bugatti has its engineers working in shifts, and the engineers alternate between three vehicles, sitting in the car for up to seven hours in order to comply with the currently applicable occupational safety regulations.
Thoughts About Bugatti Suspending Production Of Its Chiron And Divo Models
We're sure manufacturers of exotic cars are able to keep operations at capacity for much longer during an emergency or a pandemic, and Bugatti are a perfect example of that. It also shows that strong commitment that Bugatti has towards its employees, its name, its cars, and its customers. We are very impressed.
