Bridgestone Partners With Microsoft To Develop Real Time Tyre Damage Monitoring System
Japan based tyre manufacturer, Bridgestone, has announced a partnership with American software developer Microsoft to research and develop a Tyre Damage Monitoring System. The system will be designed to detect tyre damage in real time.
The brand said that tyre damage contributes to roughly 30 percent of all road accidents caused by technical failure. Tyre related accidents arise because of four major reasons - inadequate pressure, fatigue, irregular wear, and lastly, damage from curbs, potholes, or sharp objects littered on the road.
The brand says that while existing tyre pressure monitoring systems that feature on vehicles help manage avoid low pressure scenarios, they do not monitor damage to tyres.
Laurent Dartoux, the Chief Executive Officer and President at Bridgestone EMIA said, "By teaming up with Microsoft, we have the opportunity to bring our Tyre Damage Monitoring System to millions of drivers, offering them better safety and peace of mind."
Software developer Microsoft said that they have partnered and continue to partner with mobility companies with the aim of supporting their transition into ‘smart' mobility providers.
Tara Prakriya, the General Manager at Azure Mobility and MCVP at Microsoft said, "With the MCVP, our mission is to help businesses accelerate the delivery of safe and personalised connected mobility experiences."
Meanwhile the tyre manufacturer feels that this a great opportunity for the brand. Parag Satpute, the Managing Director at Bridgestone India said, "This tie-up gives Bridgestone India the opportunity to bring state-of-the-art and pioneering technology in mobility solutions to the country and allow it to further collaborate with its OE partners."
In Bridgestone related news, the brand recently launched Bridgestone Bookmyservice in India. The platform allows for customers to book appointments for contactless services for tyres online. One can also have a tyre replacement appointment booked via the platform. To know more, click here.
Thoughts About Bridgestone Partnering With Microsoft To Develop Tyre Damage Monitoring System
This is a fantastic development in the Tyre Industry, but we're unsure of its need on passenger vehicles. This technology is used by factions in the Motorsport Industry such as Formula 1, Formula E, and MotoGP, but really doesn't make any sense to have for regular vehicles. But hey, sure, we're ready to pay an extra amount for something that brings an extra ‘cool' factor.
