2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe Unveiled Globally: Will It Come To India?
BMW has globally unveiled its all-new 4 Series Coupe. The 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe takes inspiration from the brand's 'Concept 4' and comes with a radical change in design, features and powertrain options.
Visually, the new BMW 4 Series Coupe carries forward the brand's latest design language, which includes bold, sharp and aggressive styling. The German car manufacturer has put the controversially large kidney grille into production with the new 4 Series Coupe. The new kidney grille is flanked on either side by a set of completely new and sleek looking LED headlamps with laser high-beam and integrated LED DRLs.
The side and rear profiles have also been changed and now features a sloping roofline which integrates smoothly with the boot at the rear. The rear design itself is characterised by a set of L-shaped LED taillights.
The visual changes made to the new 4 Series help serve its purpose of allowing itself to stand-out from the more 3 Series sedan. The new two-door coupe is, however, based on the same CLAR platform, which underpins its sibling, the four-door 3 Series sedan.
Moving to the interiors of the new BMW 4 Series, the cabin has been primarily carried forward from the latest-generation 3 Series model. What's new on the 4 Series is the leatherette upholstery in two colour schemes, while BMW also offers premium Vernasca leather with a choice of seven colours is optional.
The new BMW 4 Series also comes standard with a 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 5.1-inch digital instrument cluster. However, there is also an option to upgrade to a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system and a 10.3-inch instrument console.
Compared to the older 4 Series sedan, the new (2021) Coupe is said to be 128mm longer(4,768mm) and a 41mm longer wheelbase at 2,851mm. The new Coupe is also 27mm wider than its predecessor, while its track has been increased by 28mm at the front and 14mm at the rear.
Coming to the heart of the matter, the 2021 BMW 4 Series now comes with two sets of petrol and diesel engine offerings. This includes a 2.0-litre turbo petrol producing 255bhp and 400Nm of peak torque and a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol-hybrid churning out 382bhp and 500Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine options also come with a mild-hybrid system, with the 2,0-litre unit churning out 190bhp.
All engines on offer on the new 4 Series are mated to a standard 8-speed automatic transmission unit. The engines are offered on a range of different variants available on the 4 Series. This includes the 420i, 430i, M440i, 430d and a 440d.
Thoughts On The 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupe
BMW hasn't officially stated anything about the 4 Series entry into the Indian market. The German car brand is currently busy preparing for the introduction of the 2 Series Gran Coupe in the Indian market, expected to take place later this year.
