BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Spotted Testing In India Ahead Of Launch: Spy Pics & Other Details
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been spied testing in Pune ahead of its launch in India. The upcoming luxury-sedan from the German automaker is expected to be launched sometime during this year in the Indian market.
The Spy images from Rushlane, reveal a heavily camouflaged test mule equipped with an emission testing equipment testing in the streets of Pune. The images also reveal a few design features such as the LED headlights with integrated DRLs, a five-spoke alloy wheels, and split-LED tail lamps; among others.
The upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe is one of the newest models in BMW's global portfolio. The new entry-level luxury sedan made its global debut during November 2019. The Gran Coupe is based on the company's modular FAAR platform, with a front-wheel-drive configuration.
The FAAR platform has been derived from Mini which is also part of the BMW Group. The front-wheel driven cars will not require a propeller shaft for sending power to the rear wheels. As a result, the company claims the platform will offer a spacious cabin and also reduces manufacturing cost as well. Whether this will affect the brand's signature setup of rear-wheel driven cars among the fans and enthusiast is yet to be seen.
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe measures 4,526mm in length, 1,800mm in width, 1,420mm in height and features a wheelbase length of 2,670mm. In comparison, the upcoming BMW Gran Coupe's rival the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine features a longer wheelbase of 59mm.
Speaking about the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe's looks, it borrows its design inspiration from its elder sibling, the 8-Series Gran Coupe. The upcoming sedan features LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, a large kidney grille, LED fog lamps, and a sporty lower intake. At the rear, the sedan features a sloping roofline with a sculpted boot lid, dual exhaust pipes, and LED tail lamps inspired by the 8-Series Gran Coupe; among others.
On the inside, it is expected to come feature-packed with a host of new equipment. This includes two large displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, respectively. The sedan is expected to feature the brand's latest connected technology to control the car via a smartphone application and AI assistance. It is expected to feature BMW's latest iDrive system, rear air-con vents, wireless smartphone charging and much more.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe is expected to be offered with two engine options: the ‘220i' 2.0-litre petrol engine, producing 181bhp, and 290Nm of torque. The ‘220d' 2.0-litre diesel engine will produce 188bhp and 400Nm of torque. Both engines will come mated to a standard eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Once launched the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will rival the upcoming Audi A3 and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine which is also expected to launch sometime during this year. While the Audi A3 will join the Indian line-up by early next year. There are rumours that the pre-booking for the Gran Coupe entry-level sedan has started. BMW is expected to price the 2 Series Gran Coupe at around Rs 33 lakh in India.
In related news, BMW has started off its new vehicle launch proceedings for this year by adding the 8-Series to the brand's Indian line-up.
