The new Volkswagen T-Roc spy pics from Autocar India showcases the SUV completely camouflaged and undergoing testing on the outskirts of Pune, Maharashtra. The T-Roc once launched in the Indian market will be positioned below the Volkswagen Tiguan and will compete in the mid-size SUV segment.

The launch of the Volkswagen T-Roc is part of the German brand's aggressive push in the Indian market. Volkswagen will introduce a host of new products from 2020 in India, starting with the T-Roc.

In terms of design, the Volkswagen T-Roc will come with a very sporty appearance. The SUV will come with a new front grille, in line with the brand's latest design language. It will also come with thin headlamps, with the LED DRLs and cornering lamps positioned further down on the bumper.

The front bumper also houses a large air intake at its centre. It also comes with silver skid plates on the lower part of the bumper. The LED DRLs also serve as indicators at the front.

Moving to the side and rear profile of the Volkswagen T-Roc, the SUV comes with sharp creases and large wheel arches. There is also a sharp shoulder line running along the entire length of the SUV.

The T-Roc also comes with a dual-tone paint scheme as optional. This includes a black roof, ORVMs and the A-Pillar. The rear profile continues with the sporty theme, offering sleek LED taillights. The rear bumper houses the reflectors at either end, with a silver scuff plate at the central part.

Initially, the Volkswagen T-Roc will come powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine. This engine is said to produce 150bhp and mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission unit. The India-specific model will have the engine powering the front wheels of the T-Roc, without the option of Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.

However, the German brand will introduce a more localised version of the T-Roc in India at a later stage. This model will feature a 1.0-litre TSI engine, developed specifically for the Indian market.

The Volkswagen T-Roc will initially be imported as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) in India. Hence, Volkswagen doesn't expect the T-Roc to start selling in large volumes right from the start. The SUV will also be part of Volkswagen's modular MQB platform, which also underpins the Tiguan, along with other Skoda models as well.

Thoughts On The Volkswagen T-Roc Spy Pics

The Volkswagen T-Roc is the first of multiple product launches planned by the brand for the Indian market. This is part of Volkswagen's new ‘India 2.0' project, which will see Skoda handle the operations.

The Volkswagen T-Roc once launched is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom and will take on rivals such as the Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming 2020 Hyundai Creta.
