Volkswagen Polo & Vento BS-VI Models Spied Testing Ahead Of Launch In India: Spy Pics & Details
German auto manufacturer Volkswagen, is preparing to introduce their BS-VI compliant models in India by next year. Ahead of the launch the Polo and the Vento models have been spotted testing on Indian roads.
The spy pic from MotorBeam reveal current-gen models of both Polo and Vento testing together. Volkswagen is expected to carry forward their diesel engines to make it BS-VI compliant. However, we expect the company to introduce their BS-VI model with petrol engines, initially.
The current-gen Polo is offered with two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 75bhp and the 153Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine churning out 88.5bhp and 230Nm of torque. Both engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as standard. We expect the BS-VI complaint to produce similar power and torque figures as well.
On the other hand the Vento sedan is offered with a total of three engine options: a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 103.2bhp and 153Nm of torque, a 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine churning out 103.2bhp and 175Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine with a power output of 108.6bhp and 250Nm of torque.
The 1.6 petrol and the 1.5 diesel engine is offered with a five-speed manual gearbox. While, the 1.2 petrol and 1.5 diesel engines are offered with seven speed DSG dual clutch automatic transmission unit. Again, the company is expected to carry forward the same engine and transmission options to the BS-VI spec models. We expect the company to release the Vento with BS-VI compliant 1.6-litre petrol engine at first.
Also, we wonder how Volkswagen would make the BS-VI transition with their Polo GT models. The Polo GT is offered with two engine options: a 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 103.2bhp and 175Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine with churning out 108.6bhp and 250Nm of torque. The petrol engine comes mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission unit, while the diesel engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission as standard.
The company had recently revised the Polo and the Vento with facelift models last month. We are unsure if the upcoming BS-VI models would feature any new additions apart from the engine. We will have to wait for the official confirmation from the company.
In other news, Volkswagen is looking to introduce a new SUV to the Indian market. Called the T-Roc will rival the like of Kia Seltos and other SUVs in the market — here are more details.
Thoughts About The Volkswagen Polo & Vento BS-VI Spied
Like all the other auto manufacturer in the country, Volkswagen also needs to update their existing Indian line-up to comply with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms. The deadline for the new emission norms are set to April 1, 2020. The company had recently added new trims to the Polo, Vento and Ameo models called the "GT Line" as well. However, we doubt if there will be any significant features added to the BS-VI models when launched in India.
