Toyota Vellfire Premium MPV Unveiled In India — Opulence & Luxury For The Entire Family
Toyota Kirloskar Motor India has displayed the Vellfire luxury MPV at a private event in India. The display of this MPV has finally confirmed its launch in India. The Luxury MPV segment does not form a large chunk of the Indian automotive market, but there are a significant number of buyers and Toyota is aiming at these buyers.
When it comes to luxury MPVs there are but a few players in the world. Toyota without doubt is one of the largest manufacturers in this segment. Toyota has MPVs like the Hiace, Alphard and Vellfire that come with the absolute best in terms of features and luxury.
Toyota was rumoured to display the Vellfire at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo but then it finally displayed the Alphard at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. It drew a lot of attention and everybody were all praises for the Alphard and Toyota received a lot of enquiries.
Though Toyota didn't officially sell these MPV's in India, a few companies in the travel and tourism sector imported several of these vehicles. Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz launched the V-Class in India which is again, a luxury van.
Hence, Toyota seems to have decided that the market is indeed ripe for the launch of a luxury van. According to Team-BHP, the Toyota Vellfire was displayed at a private event at an unknown location.
The event was probably only for dealers and potential customers, hence the blurry images. However, the brochure and images of the car have been leaked and we know exactly what it would be offering for the Indian market.
The Toyota Vellfire is another version of the Toyota Alphard displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo. The first impressions of the Toyota Vellfire is — it is a large vehicle. It measures 4,935mm in length, 1,895mm in height and is 1,850mm wide.
It features a modern design that is pleasing to the eye. Up front is a split headlamp design with LED DRLs on the lower headlamp. Between the headlamps is a large chrome grille and the large grille also takes up a majority of the space on the bumper as well. It is a very sharp design overall and will definitely turn heads.
The outer rear view mirror housings come with integrated dynamic turn-signal indicators. From the sides too, the luxury MPV features a sharp design and attractive diamond-cut alloy wheels.
The large, powered sliding doors on both sides of the Luxury MPV open to reveal acres of space and an opulence-laden cabin. The interiors come with a black-coloured theme. In the front is a cascading dashboard design, a chunky steering wheel and the shift-stick for the automatic gearbox.
The dashboard features a touchscreen infotainment system with all the latest features and functions one would require. A luxurious ride awaits those travelling in the back of the MPV. It will be made available with multiple seating capacities and options.
The minimum number of seats at the rear is four and all of them are luxurious captain seats. The Ottoamn full reclining seats are heated and ventilated. Each seat comes with its own table and spot light for reading.
The seats are powered and come with the memory function to remember the position they were left in. The MPV also features twin moonroofs, sun shades, multi-coloured ambient lighting, automatic air conditioning, etc.
The Toyota Vellfire comes with a host of safety features including seven airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, digital full display mirror with wider field of view, blind spot detection system, rear cross traffic alert, etc.
In terms of powertrain, the Toyota Vellfire for the Indian market will be available with a 2.5-litre petrol-hybrid drivetrain system. It will be mated to a CVT gearbox with 4-step shifts. It is the same drivetrain as in the Camry Hybrid, but the Vellfire will come with a E-Four AWD system.
Thoughts On Toyota Vellfire Luxury MPV Unveiled In India
There is no doubt about the existence of demand for luxury MPVs in India. Till now, the demand was met by importing vehicles individually. Now though, with Toyota stepping in, it should become easier to purchase one of these off the the showroom floor.
Toyota too would be importing it as a CBU (Completely Built Unit). This also means that it would be very expensive. However, we are sure Toyota would price it to undercut the Mercedes-Benz V-Class which is its only rival in the Indian market. The Toyota Vellfire will be placed above the Fortuner but below the Land Cruiser Prado.
