Toyota Mobility Foundation Partners With WRI For New Mobility Solution In India

Toyota Mobility Foundation announced via a press release that it has partnered with WRI India Ross Center for Sustainable Cities in order to start a (STAMP) Station Access and Mobility Program.

Projections are that India will boast of a population of 814 million, and also have up to four mega cities by the year 2030, and will demand for more mobility solutions. The company plans to contribute significantly by creating a dependable mobility ecosystem in the country.

Toyota also said, via the release, that building this ecosystem will come with its challenges like congestion and pollution, but will allow for Original Equipment Manufacturers, and innovators to develop feasible and substantial modes of transportation that will be cost-effective, convenient and easily accessible.

The Station Access Mobility Program will focus on high-quality first and last-mile connectivity solutions for the urban mass transit system such as the Metro. The initiative will also support the government to facilitate mass transport by increasing ridership and developing seamless mobility for the public.

Mr Pras Ganesh, the Program Director for the Asia Region at Toyota Mobility Foundation, said that because popularity of urban transport is rising in the Indian subcontinent, it was imperative that Toyota develop economical, innovative and easily accessible solutions for last-mile connectivity, achieve safe, sustainable mobility, and help uncongest Indian cities.

Toyota understands that change cannot be achieved without public participation, and with dialogues and solutions focused on the core issues. The company hopes to strengthen the importance of communities by collaborating with mobility partners, and conceiving mobility needs and viable solutions.

Mr Ganesh said, "We believe that sustainable transport system is a key driver of sustainable urban development. The positive response received from our partners including Government officials, key stakeholders, and our mobility start-up partners truly shows the common belief we all share and our vision to encourage innovation and an integrated and seamless mobility experience for the customers by building upon the initiatives of the government."

The Toyota Mobility Foundation and the WRI also work closely with other mobility operators in India such as Bounce, Mobycy, Bykerr, Quickride, and Constapark.

Thoughts About The Toyota's STAMP Initiative

That is a massive project to take up. Building mobility solutions for up to four mega cites is a fairly daunting task, but we're sure Toyota is up for the challenge. 814 billion people is a very large population to cater to.
