Toyota Glanza Spied For The First Time — Launch Expected In First Week Of June
Toyota Glanza, a rebadged version of the Maruti Baleno is expected to launch in the Indian market sometime in the first week of June 2019. Ahead of its launch, images of the Toyota Glanza has been leaked online for the first time.
The leaked images by Autocar India, showcase the upcoming Toyota Glanza hatchback for the Indian market. The Glanza is essentially the Maruti Baleno, although it does come with a few minor styling updates and wears the 'Toyota' badging.
The Toyota Glanza is the first product to come out of the Suzuki-Toyota alliance. Updates to the exterior include a new chrome-grille and Toyota badging all around. The Glanza even retains the same alloy wheel design as on the Baleno.
Interiors of the Toyota Glanza is also expected to remain identical to the Baleno hatchback, with little to no changes being made. However, with no images of the interiors yet, this is yet to be confirmed at a later stage.
The Toyota Glanza is said to be available in two top-level variants: G and V. The 'G' variant on the Glanza will be equivalent to the mid-spec 'Zeta' of the Maruti Baleno while the 'V' is based on the top-spec 'Alpha' trim. Toyota will skip the base entry-level 'Omega' and 'Delta' trims of the Baleno.
At the time of launch, Toyota is said to offer the Glanza with just a single 1.2-litre petrol engine, the same as seen on the Baleno. This engine will further come mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission and an optional CVT as well. Toyota released its first teaser video of the Glanza a couple of days back, with the catchphrase, 'Hatching Soon' — watch the teaser video here.
The Toyota rebadged Baleno is the first of a number of cross-products between the two brands. Other Suzuki models to receive the Toyota badging also include the popular Vitara Brezza SUV. Maruti Suzuki has already confirmed that the production of the Vitara Brezza will soon be entirely moved over to the Toyota plant (TKM) on the outskirts of Bangalore.
Thoughts On The Toyota Glanza Hatchback
The Toyota Glanza is the first cross-product offering from the two Japanese brands in the country. Being available in just the top-spec variants, the Toyota Glanza is said to be offered with a slightly higher starting price compared to the Maruti Baleno in the Indian market. Once launched in the market, the Toyota Glanza will rival the likes of the Hyundai i20 Elite and the Honda Jazz.
