Toyota Confirms Rush Launching 2020-21 — Heading For The Limelight
According to CarBlogIndia's sources, Toyota have confirmed the launch of the Toyota Rush SUV. The launch is scheduled for 2020-21. Early reports suggested that Toyota may launch an all-new SUV in India and we now know it is the Toyota Rush.
The Toyota Rush was in the pipeline for an India launch for a while and the compact SUV is arriving soon. Toyota marks its entry in the compact SUV segment with the Rush. Their premium models like the Fortuner, the Innova Crysta and the Camry Hybrid have been contributing to a majority sales and Toyota wants a piece of the best segment - the compact SUV.
The Toyota Rush will be build on the new TNGA platform, and the single shell chassis will ensure the SUV is a lightweight. The TNGA platform will also be used by Suzuki for their newer SUV line up. It is likely that the Toyota Rush will feature both petrol and diesel variants but we will have onfirmation closer to launch.
Expectations are that the 1.5-litre petrol engine on the Yaris will feature in the Toyota Rush. This 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 107bhp of power and 141Nm of torque. There are no specifications available for a diesel variant.
Dealerships have already nicknamed the Toyota Rush. They call it the mini Fortuner (well it does look a miniature version of the larger Toyota Fortuner). They expect the vehicle to be priced at about Rs 13 lakh and upwards, however others from the industry expect the compact SUV to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh, ex-showroom, India.
Once launched, the Toyota Rush will compete against the Hyundai Creta, the Nissan Kicks, and the Renault Captur.
Thoughts About The Toyota Rush
The segment Toyota is attacking with the Rush is by far the most lucrative. Hyundai has captured a majority of this segment and Toyota has a massive task ahead. Having said that, it is the right time to enter the compact SUV segment and possibly break the monopoly in the class. All the very best Toyota. May the Rush be with you.
