Tata Motors may launch the long-range variant of the Tata Tigor EV in the Indian market next week. The long range variant of the Tigor has been in the making for a while now. It is considered to be a part of Tata's attempts to make its electric vehicles available for private buyers as well.

Hence, the Indian auto giant has been trying to launch a new variant with a longer range to suit the requirements of private buyers. The Tata Tigor EV currently on sale is powered by a 16.2kWh battery and driven by a 72 Volt AC induction motor.

It has a maximum power output of 40.23bhp and a peak torque output of 105Nm. It boasts of a range of 142 kilometres on one full charge. If a 15kW DC fast-charger is used, the battery can be juiced up within 80-90 minutes, making for a decent turnaround time. However, for private buyers, Tata intends to improve the range.

According to Car&Bike, the new extended range variant of the Tata Tigor will be launched next week. The new variant is expected to have a range of around 200 kilometres on a single charge and it is expected to have a higher top speed as well.

The current model is restricted to 80km/h since it is meant for commercial usage. The extended range variant will not have the speed restriction but will have better performance. We also expect the extended range version to weigh more since it would require additional batteries to deal with the speed and the higher range requirements.

The Tata Tigor EV is currently retailed at prices between Rs 11.58 lakh and Rs 11.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). These prices will obviously go up for the extended range version of the notchback.

The Tata Tigor EV came with a lot of promises. However, the general public and private buyers are yet to see these promises coming true. The extended range variant will offer more value-for-money to private buyers. Tata is going big with its electric vehicle plans.

Earlier today, Tata Motors announced its Ziptron EV technology that will power its next generation of electric vehicles. These new vehicles will have a shorter charging time and a longer range.
