Tata Tigor Electric Priced At Rs 9.99 Lakh — Available Only For Taxi & Fleet Operators In India

Prices for Tata's first all-electric vehicle, the Tigor EV, have been revealed. Tata Motors has priced the all new Tigor EV between Rs 9.99 lakh and Rs 10.90 lakh, ex-showroom (India). Tata is retailing the Tigor EV only to cab aggregators and fleet operators at the moment.

According to AutoCar India, these ex-showroom prices includes TCS (Tax Collected at Source) which stands at 1 percent that is levied on cars that cost above Rs 10 lakh. It also takes in to account incentives provided under the government backed FAME II scheme, which amounts to Rs 1.62 lakh.

This means that without incentives offered by the government scheme for electric vehicles, the Tigor EV retails between Rs 11.61 and Rs 11.71 lakh. The Tigor EV is priced at roughly Rs 4.0 lakh more than the Tigor petrol variant (after including taxes and FAME II benefits).

The Tigor electric is available in two mid-spec variants, the Tigor EV XM, and Tigor EV XT. The all-electric offering by Tata is available in three different colours: White, Blue, and Silver, and the vehicle features dual front airbags, ABS, and rear parking sensors. These safety features ensures compliance with the new norms that come into effect on July 1, 2019.

Both the XM and XT variants share a lot of features, however the XT features 14-inch alloy wheels, and electronically adjustable ORVMs for the additional Rs 10,000 on the price. Both trims are also well equipped for the cab/ fleet markets, although boot space has been reduced to 330-litres from the standard 419-litres.

Other features on both the electric trims include body-coloured bumpers and door handles, LED tail-lamps, a climate control system, driver's seat height-adjust levers, power windows and a Harman built 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, and USB and AUX connectivity.

Both the Tigor EV trims are powered by a 16.2kWh battery back that produces 30kW (41bhp) @ 4,500rpm, and 105Nm of torque @ 2,500rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 72V, 3-phase AC induction motor. Tata claims the EVs can pull of 142km on a single charge, however on road testing shows that the vehicles can run a total of 100km.

The battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent in 6 hours via a standard AC wall socket. Tata also says that a DC 15kW fast charger could achieve the same charging figures in 90 minutes.

Tata Motors is offering a three-year/ 1.25 lakh kilometer warranty with the vehicle and the battery pack.

Thoughts About The Pricing For The Tata Tigor Electric Vehicle

We expect prices to be on the higher side for electric vehicles simply because the tech is new. Manufacturers will most likely stabilize from the move to electric variants over the next couple of years and we can expect lower prices eventually. We feel the electric offerings from Tata Motors are fairly priced.
