Tata Motors Plan To Expand Electric Vehicle Portfolio — Electric Is Here To Stay!
Tata Motors won the bidding for government tenders for electric vehicles and plan to expand it's electric vehicle portfolio. Tata Motors also walked away with 60% of the electric bus contract from the Ministry of Heavy Industries. They will produce 255 electric buses for six cities across the country.
Managing Director, Guenter Butschek, recently told ET that the company is committed to electric vehicles and wants to lead the evolution in this segment. "We have ensured that future architectures Alpha and Omega are both future-protected for EV's. Apart from working on a higher range of the Tigor and Tiago EV, our first two offerings on the Alpha structure will have an EV option," he said.
Tata wants to add the Altroz EV to increase it's EV presence, along with the Tiago and Tigor EV variants. These three cars in Tata's electric portfolio will cater for buyers in the sub-Rs 15 lakh segments.
Tata currently offers the Tiago in petrol and diesel variants. Prices for the models are between Rs 4.21 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Tata Tigor is also available in petrol and diesel variants and prices range between Rs 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and Rs 7.52 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
Thoughts On Tata's Achievement In The Electric Vehicle Segment
Kudos! This is welcomed. Tata is a domestic manufacturer and now that they have the tenders, electric vehicles may be cheaper than expected.
