Tata Motors Bags Order For 500 Electric Vehicles From Lithium Urban Technologies
Tata Motors has announced a long term partnership with Lithium Urban Technologies to offer electric mobility solutions in the market across passenger, mass transit and freight segments. Tata Motors will provide a total of 500 long-range Tigor electric vehicles to the Lithium Urban Technologies.
As part of this new deal, Lithium Urban Technologies will add 400 Tigorelectric vehicles to its fleet. The vehicles will be delivered and deployed across the country by by the end of financial year 2019-2020.
Lithium Urban Technologies will use the other 100 electric vehicles that include Tata's upcoming electric vehicles like the Nexon EV, for corporate leadership transport services.
Mr Shailesh Chandra, the President of Electric Mobility Business & Corporate Strategy at Tata Motors, said, "This is not just the most significant milestone for Tata Motors' E-Mobility Business, but also a big turning point in the EV market, which is now likely to see fleets electrify faster than ever before."
"We are delighted to enter this partnership with Lithium, who are on their pragmatic journey of expanding their zero-emission transport service rapidly. We are committed to nurturing this valued partnership as we address the evolving mobility needs of our customers through various disruptive business models," he added.
Mr Sanjay Krishnan, the founder of Lithium Urban Technologies said, "This partnership with Tata Motors will ensure availability of new form factors and enable viability of new market segments across passenger, mass transit and freight. Lithium would move quickly to integrate the company's paradigm-shifting LUTEC (LithiumUrbanTec) EV mobility utilisation software with the new vehicles."
Lithium Urban Technologies has also partnered with Indian tech giant Wipro, to offer employee transportation service to its offices across India. The vehicles delivered by Tata Motors are likely to be used for their Wipro deal.
Tata's Tigor electric vehicle features a 72V 3-Phase AC Induction Motor that is powered by a 21.5 kWh battery pack. The motor generates 30kWh of power (roughly 40.2bhp) at 4500 rpm, and peak torque of 105Nm at 2500 rpm.
Charging options include a standard AC charger that charges the battery in about 11 and a half hours, and a fast DC charger that allows for an 80 percent charge in two hours. The Tigor also offers a top speed of 80 kilometers per hour.
The recently launch long-range Tata Tigor electric vehicle offers an extended range of 213 km on a single charge, and is available to both, fleet owners and private buyers. The long-range Tigor EV is available in three variants - the XE+, the XM+ and XT+. The vehicle is available across 30 cities, and upwards of Rs 9.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Thoughts About The Tata-Lithium Urban Technologies Partnership
Tata is truly making headway in the electric vehicle market. Partnering with cab aggregators is the smartest thing to do. This ensures that electric vehicles are continuously produced and delivered. Congratulations to both companies!
