Tata Hexa Will Not Be Discontinued Even In BS-VI Era Says Statement By Tata Motors

Tata Motors has issued a statement rubbishing reports of the Tata Hexa's production ending. Earlier this month, reports of the Tata Hexa being discontinued emerged. The reports claimed that the Tata Buzzard, which is the seven-seater version of the Harrier would replace the Hexa once BS-VI emissions norms come into play.

According to the media reports, the upcoming seven-seater version of the Tata Harrier would be replacing the Tata Hexa as the company was planning to axe the 2.2-litre Varicor engine powering the Hexa. Now though, according to the statement issued by Tata Motors, nothing could be further from the truth.

It went on to say, "The recent articles on the discontinuation of the product are purely speculative and no official statement on the same has been issued by Tata Motors. However, we would like to clarify that each and every Hexa customer is important to us and we are firmly looking at expanding the HEXA brotherhood."

Through this statement, tata has made it crystal clear that it will not be discontinuing the Hexa but will in-fact be expanding the Hexa's sales. It is unclear at the moment as to how exactly Tata plans to do the same. The Tata Hexa was first revealed at the 2016 Indian Auto Expo and then launched in January 2017.

Tata Motors launched the SUV with several premium features. The Tata Hexa is powered by a 2.2-litre, turbo-diesel Varicor 400 engine with a maximum power output of 153.8bhp and a peak torque output of 400Nm.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The top-spec XT4x4 variant also comes with shift-on-fly 4WD transmission. The Tata Hexa in all honesty is a great car.

It is stylish, packed with features and performs well thanks to its powerful engine. However, the rumours from earlier this month claimed that it is because of this very engine that Tata Motors is planning to discontinue the Hexa as it would be too expensive to make it BS-VI compliant.

The reasoning behind these rumours still stands true, as the Varicor 400 engine is old and currently BS-IV emissions compliant. Converting it to BS-VI will be an expensive job, and the Hexa does not sell in large numbers for Tata Motors to justify the costs. However, it seems like Tata Motors is looking at the Hexa like its premium vehicle and is hence not cutting corners.
