Tata Motors has launched the Harrier in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 12.69 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level XE variant. The top-spec XZ variant retails at Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tata Harrier is one of the most awaited car launches in 2019, but the hype began in 2018 itself. The Tata Harrier was first revealed in concept form at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. It debuted as the H5X and wowed the entire nation.
Test mules then began to appear across the nation and it has now been launched less than a year since it first debuted as the H5X. That is one of the quickest vehicle developments we have seen in recent times.
The Tata Harrier is based on Tata's new OMEGA platform which in turn is based on Land Rover's D8 architecture which underpins the Land Rover Discovery Sport. This makes it the largest in overall size compared to all other cars in the same segment.
The Harrier is the first vehicle from Tata Motors to be based on the new ‘Impact 2.0' design language and that makes it quite a handsome-looking SUV. It comes with bold proportions, sharp details and modern styling.
Up front is a unique arrangement for the lighting, as the LED daytime running lights are placed at the top, just below the bonnet. The headlamps as a result have been moved down near the bumper.
It certainly is a setup that goes against convention and some would love it while some would hate it. The side profile seems to have been inspired by the Land Rover Discovery Sport but the 17-inch wheels do fall short on size.
The rear end is clean and simple with a neat tail-lamp design and the word ‘Harrier' embossed in bold. Inside, the Tata Harrier is again a step ahead of convention. It comes with a good mix of leather, aluminium, gloss black panels and even wooden trim.
It features an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with controls also mounted on the leather-wrapped steering wheel. Sound is reproduced through a high-quality 9-speaker JBL audio system.
The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine which also does duty in the Jeep Compass. It produces a maximum power output of 140bhp and a peak torque output of 350Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels. A six-speed automatic transmission will be introduced at a later stage.

Bookings for the Tata harrier have been open for a while now and the same can be done for a token amount of Rs 30,000. The Tata Harrier competes with the Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV 500 and the recently launched Nissan Kicks.

The Tata Harrier seems like the perfect vehicle for most Indians as it comes with all the features a buyer in this segment would want. It is a large, comfortable SUV with quite a few technological bells and whistles.
It feels refined, drives well and has now been launched with an attractive price tag. At This rate, it would easily outsell most of its competition, especially because of the brand image that Tata has with its modern cars.
