Tata Harrier’s First Crash Happens In Mumbai — No Casualties Involved

Tata Motors launched the highly-anticipated Harrier in January 2019, at a starting price of Rs 12.69 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). Within just three weeks from its launch, a Tata Harrier has crashed in Mumbai.

According to TeamBHP, the first recorded accident of the Tata Harrier happened at the brand's dealership, Concorde Prabhadevi, in Mumbai. As per reports, the mishap happened in the hands of an employee, possibly while trying to move the SUV carelessly within the dealership.

Tata Harrier Crash

Though not being a major accident, the Tata Harrier's front bumper and bonnet have taken a heavy blow. The shape of deformation suggests that the SUV hit something like a pole or a vertical beam. It is sad to see a new vehicle in this state, especially when its deliveries are yet to start fully-fledged.

Coming back to the Tata Harrier, the five-seater SUV is getting a good response on the market, thanks to the excellent value-for-money it offers compared to its competitors. We have already driven it and you can check out our impressions in the detailed review of the Tata Harrier.

The Tata Harrier was first introduced to the Indian car community as the H5X concept, back at Auto Expo 2018. Since then, the anticipation for the 'benchmark SUV' started to grow and everyone is quite impressed with the final product.

One of the main highlights of the Tata Harrier is its OMEGA architecture which is derived from Land Rover's proven D8 platform (underpins the Discovery Sport). The Harrier also ticks a lot of boxes in terms of comfort, convenience and safety equipment.

Powering the Tata Harrier is an FCA-sourced 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine which produces 138bhp and 350Nm of torque. The power plant is mated to a six-speed manual transmission which drives the front wheels.

The new Tata Harrier does have its own share of pros and cons, and might not be the perfect product in every way. However, it is still one of the most desirable choices you can make under Rs 20 lakh.

Thoughts On The Tata Harrier's First Crash

As mentioned before, the crash intensity is quite minor. The Tata Harrier's front design features a relatively bigger bumper portion and this, obviously being made of plastic, is easily prone to deformations during a frontal impact. Judging the Tata Harrier's build quality just by this small crash is absurd as well.
