Tata Merlin LSV Makes The Harrier 7-Seater Look Tiny — Check Out The Spy Pics

Tata Motors Merlin LSV's (Light Support Vehicle) spy pics prove that the upcoming Harrier 7-seater is nothing compared to its size. Of course, the Tata Merlin is strictly a defence vehicle and will not be available for the public to buy. Still, it is a good example to showcase what the legendary Indian brand is capable of.

The images shared by MotorBeam show the Tata Merlin in a heavily-camouflaged avatar. There is a lot of things going on in terms of its design. Most probably, these would be sophisticated defence equipment which employ radar and intelligence technology, that we shouldn't be discussing in detail.

However, Tata Motors has revealed some details of the Merlin LSV in the brand's official website. The Tata Merlin boasts of STANAG 4569 Level-1 protection; meaning that its passengers are safe from artillery, grenade, mines and other forms of impact. STANAG 4569 is recognised by NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) as a high standard for "Protection Levels for Occupants of Logistic and Light Armored Vehicles".

Conveniently enough, a Maruti Suzuki Dzire made an appearance in one image; thus showing how massive the Tata Merlin is. The high ground clearance and the intimidating wheels ensure that the Merlin can take on almost any terrain.

Powered by a 3.3-litre water-cooled diesel engine, the Tata Merlin makes 185bhp and 450Nm of torque. The four-wheel-drive system is backed up by the set of military-grade run-flat tyres (with CTIS or Central Tyre Inflation System), independent suspension and hydraulic brakes with vacuum-assisted boosters.

What you see at the top is a 7.6mm machine-gun turret. Furthermore, the 40mm grenade launcher, anti-tank missiles and the imposing presence; make it a strong addition to the Indian Army's vehicle portfolio.

Thoughts On The Tata Merlin LSV

The Tata Merlin seems to promise enough and more to bump up the nation's military prowess. Tata Motors can also be proud of the Merlin since they are the largest supplier of military vehicles for the Indian Defense, while also being the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the country. It is only recently when the Indian Army commissioned the Tata Safari Storme as a replacement to the ageing Maruti Gypsy.
