Tata Motors' electric car portfolio in India will soon become more desirable. The company already makes the all-electric avatar of its compact-sedan offering; dubbed as the Tata Tigor EV.

However, the Tata Tigor is still not available on the general market. The company intends to do a public launch in phases so that enough supporting infrastructure (charging stations, service facilities, etc.) can be set up across the country. You will soon be able to see more Tigor EVs on Indian roads — here's what you should know.

Shailesh Chandra, President of Electric Mobility Business at Tata Motors shared, "While the optimum range today for a mid-sized car like the Tigor is 140-150 km, our future plans are to deliver higher range products of 200-250 km, which will be showcased in Geneva Motor show this year."

"We are not only focusing on selling and developing EVs but focusing on how we can synchronise the efforts through partnerships and deliver the entire ecosystem. We have come together with other Tata companies like Tata Power for charging infrastructure, Tata Chemicals for component localisation, TCS for data platform among others," he further added.

The country's push towards a sustainable electric mobility system has witnessed greater interest among automotive brands and other organisations in concern, in the past few years. In fact, there are plans to introduce EV charging stations every 25km on Indian highways and main roads. Other initiatives include tax deductions, easier loans, exemption of toll fee and more — check out all the initiatives taken by the government to promote electric vehicles in India.

The transition to electric mobility will be gradual as "the demand isn't certain" (though being much higher than before). The proportion of electric vehicles sold in India should be balanced by the number of charging stations available to provide a hassle-free ownership experience. At least for now, it is best to sell EVs in just urban markets.

Thoughts On The Upcoming Tata Electric Cars In India

As of now, not much is known about the upcoming Tata electric cars in India. However, the above-mentioned range figures of 200-250km are certainly impressive even though popular EVs sold in foreign markets promise more. India's EV portfolio is still at a growing stage, but everything will improve in the not-too-distant future. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comment section below.
