Tata Cassini SUV Spied Testing Ahead Of Launch In India: To Rival The Toyota Fortuner

Tata Motors is working on introducing its next product, the Cassini SUV for the Indian market. The new seven-seater SUV is based on the popular Harrier offering and was first showcased at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

The Tata Cassini SUV is expected to go on sale in India by early-2020. Ahead of its launch, the SUV has been spied testing on the outskirts of Pune yet again. The spy pics of the Tata Cassini by Team-BHP showcases the SUV completely camouflaged. However, the SUV can be seen with a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels.

Compared to the five-seater Harrier SUV, the new Cassini comes with larger dimensions. The SUV measures, 4,661mm in length and 1786mm in height, this is 63mm longer and 80mm taller than the standard Harrier model. The width, wheelbase and other dimensions remain unchanged.

The additional length on the Tata Cassini is to accommodate the third-row of seating. These get dedicated AC vents, USB charging ports and a 12V socket as well.

In terms of mechanicals, the Tata Cassini is said to come equipped with a BS-VI compliant version of the 2.0-litre ‘Kryotec' diesel engine. This engine will also be tuned to produce 170bhp and 350Nm of peak torque.

The engine will come mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox. The SUV might also debut an automatic transmission on the Cassini, sourced from Hyundai.

Apart from the above-mentioned changes, the Tata Cassini will remain mostly unchanged from the Harrier. It will feature the same set of features, equipment and safety as the five-seater model.

Once launched in the Indian market, the Tata Cassini will be the new flagship model from the brand. It will be positioned above the Hexa SUV and will also be priced at a premium, compared to the Harrier. It will take on rivals such as the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Alturas G4.

The Tata Cassini (7-seater Harrier-based) SUV has been spied testing yet again in the Indian market. The new SUV has been a much-awaited model from the brand in the Indian market. With stiff competition in the segment, it will be interesting to see how the new SUV will fare among its rivals.
