Now according to reports from Financial Express, the production-spec version of the seven-seater H7X once launched in India will be called 'Cassini'. The name is said to be derived from Cassini Huygens Satellite; developed in collaboration with the European Space Agency and NASA.

Tata recently launched the five-seater Harrier in the Indian market. At the time of launch, the brand confirmed that a seven-seater SUV based on the Harrier is in the works. The seven-seater Harrier-based SUV has also been spotted testing in India on multiple occasions.

The Tata Cassini SUV will be the new flagship seven-seater model. It will be positioned above the Hexa SUV in the brand's product lineup. The Tata Cassini will be similar to the Harrier and will be based on the OMEGA platform. It will also be part of Tata Motor's latest 'Impact 2.0' design language.

The Cassini will be the second product to be part of the OMEGA architecture, after the Harrier. It will carry forward similar design and features as on the five-seater SUV. However, it will be longer than the Harrier by 62mm, while retaining the same wheelbase.

The Tata Cassini will also be powered by the same 2.0-litre 'Kryotec' diesel engine, which powers the Harrier. Although, the seven-seater SUV will have a higher power output at 170bhp and 350Nm of torque, compared to the 140bhp on the Harrier. The Cassini will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, however, it is expected to debut the Hyundai-sourced automatic transmission as well.

Thoughts On The Tata Cassini SUV

The Tata Cassini SUV was showcased as the Buzzard at the Geneva Motor Show. Once launched in India, the Tata Cassini will be priced in the range of Rs 20 lakh or above. It will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4.
