Tata Altroz New Teaser Video Released: India-Launch Confirmed For January 2020
Tata Motors has released a brand new teaser video of their upcoming Altroz premium hatchback. The new teaser video also reveals the timeline for the launch of the Tata Altroz in the Indian market.
As seen from the teaser video, the Tata Altroz will go on sale in India from January 2020. The launch was initially planned for 2019, however, the company delayed the launch. This was because Tata decided to introduce the Altroz with BS-VI compliant engine options, rather than introducing an update in 2020.
The Tata Altroz is the first premium hatchback from the brand in the Indian market. Once launched in January 2020, the Altroz will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and the Hyundai Elite i20.
The Tata Altroz will also debut the brand's ‘ALFA' architecture, which will be used on all future products. It will also be the second product to feature the company's ‘Impact 2.0' design language, with the Harrier being the first model.
The Tata Altroz was showcased in its concept form back at the 2018 Auto Expo. Later, Tata Motors showcased the premium hatchback for the first time at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, along with the Harrier and other models.
In terms of mechanicals, the Tata Altroz is expected to feature three engine options: two petrol and one diesel. This includes a 1.2-litre NA petrol producing 85bhp (borrowed from the Tiago); a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol churning out 102bhp (de-tuned version of the engine on the Nexon) and a 1.5-litre diesel producing 90bhp (borrowed from the Nexon as well).
All three engines will come mated to a standard five-speed manual gearbox. However, Tata might introduce AMT transmissions on the higher-spec variants at a later date as well. Also, as mentioned before, all three engines will be compliant with the upcoming BS-VI emission norms.
Thoughts On The Tata Altroz Teaser Video
The Tata Altroz is finally set to go on sale in the Indian market. First unveiled in its concept form, codenamed 45X, the Altroz will be the first premium hatchback offering from the brand in India. Once launched, we expect the Tata Altroz to be priced similar to its competition in the price range between Rs 6 - 8 lakh, ex-showroom.
