Tata Altroz May Feature 114PS JTP Engine — May Offer Performance Variant

Tata Motors will officially launch the Tata Altroz during the second half of 2019. The premium hatchback draws design inspiration from the 45X concept that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The hatchback may feature the 114PS JTP engine currently on the Tiago and the Tigor JTP variants.

Tata Altroz

According to GaadiWaadi.com, The Tata Altroz may feature an updated version of the 1.2-litre Revotron engine currently offered on the Tata Tiago. It may also feature manual and automatic transmissions as options. There are rumors that the Altroz may use a mild-hybrid system that will not feature an oil-burner.

The industry also feels that the Tata Altroz may receive the turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre petrol engines featured on the Tiago and Tigor JTP models. This engine may be introduced on a JTP variant of the Altroz in order to rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT. The JPT variants of the Tiago and the Tigor feature engines that produce 114PS of power and 150Nm of torque.

Altroz side profile

The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Power and torque outputs may be increased on the Tata Altroz, giving it a slight edge over rivals in the same segment. It may also feature tuned suspension and Electronic Power Steering to enhance drive and handling capabilities. The Altroz may also feature performance upgrades like better air-filters, improved fuel mapping, and may be a newer exhaust system.

The Tata Altroz was introduced at the 2018 Auto Expo along with the Tata Harrier. The Harrier is the first vehicle based on Tata's Impact Design 2.0 philosophy. It is also the first vehicle to from Tata to feature the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced (OMEGA) platform. This platform is derived from the D8 architecture that is Land Rover specific. The Harrier 5-seater is the next step towards Tata's Turnaround 2.0 Strategy - a strategy that focuses on catering for 90 per cent of the volume segments.

Altroz rear profile

The Tata Altroz is priced between Rs 12.69 lakh and Rs 16.25 lakh, ex-showroom (India). The car is available in five colour options - Thermisto Gold, Telesto Grey, Ariel Silver, Orcus White, and Calisto Copper.

Thoughts About The Possible Engine Option On The Tata Altroz

Well it will interesting to see what motor Tata deploys in the Altroz. The vehicle is being projected as a premium hatchback so there will certainly be better performance features loaded in it. It is just a matter of time before we know for sure. Outside of that, we really want to know which employee at Tata Motors came up with the names for the colour variants. We think the person may be heavily invested in the X-Men.
