Skoda Kodiaq Scout India Launch Confirmed — Coming 4th Quarter 2019

Skoda's flagship SUV, the Kodiaq, received a more off-road bias upgrade in early 2017 — the Kodiaq Scout. Over two years after it was first unveiled, the Kodiaq Scout is finally making its way to the Indian market. The vehicle is expected to launch during the fourth quarter of 2019.

According to CarDekho, the one thing that will set the Kodiaq Scout apart from the Style and the L&K variants that are available in India, is higher ground clearance. The Scout offers 194mm of ground clearance as compared to the Style and the L&K models that offer 188mm of ground clearance. Thanks to the additional 6mm of clearance, the Skoda Kodiaq Scout has better approach and departure angles that make it a better off-road performer.

The Skoda Kodiaq Scout will feature six driving modes just like the Style and L&K models — Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual and Snow. In addition, the Scout will feature an 'Off-Road' switch that will slow down throttle response, and change suspension settings. It will also give the vehicle Hill Hold abilities and also the ability to maintain a set speed for hill descents.

Most other differences between the Scout and the other Kodiaq models are cosmetic. The scout will feature 19-inch alloy wheels, silver details on the grille, on the roof rails, on the ORVM housing, on the side window trims, and at the front and rear underbody protection.

The interiors of the Skoda Kodiaq Scout will get an all black finish and will feature 'Scout' badging on the seats, and on the glove box. The Scout is expected to feature the same equipment that is on the Style Variant. LED headlamps, Electronic Stability Control; front, side and curtain airbags; KESSY (Keyless Entry, Start and exit System with engine start/stop button); and power-adjustable driver and front passenger seats will most likely be featured in the Scout.

Skoda is expected to offer the Scout with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that is mated to a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox. The engine produces 148bhp of power @ 3,500rpm and 340Nm of torque @ 1,750rpm. This engine is featured in the Kodiaq Style and L&K variants.

The Skoda Kodiaq Style is priced at Rs 35.36 lakh and the Kodiaq L&K variant is priced at Rs 36.78 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom (India). The Scout is expected to be priced within the same bracket.

Thoughts About The Skoda Kodiaq Scout

Interesting upgrade. We feel the only new thing here is 6mm of ground clearance. Yes, we need to test the car to say if it really is off-road worthy because every car that is available in the Indian markets are off-road ready. We don't really have the best of roads, do we? May be the Scout is the perfect sedan for India.
