Skoda Karoq India-Launch Timeline Revealed — To Rival The Tata Harrier SUV

Skoda Karoq India-launch timeline revealed. Reports suggest that the Skoda Karoq will be launched in India by 2020.

Skoda might soon be bringing its Karoq SUV to the Indian market. The Skoda Karoq was first unveiled back in 2017, as a replacement to the Yeti SUV. The SUV is already available in international markets and is now set to enter India.

According to a report from Economic Times, local production of the Skoda Karoq has already begun, with a launch expected to happen sometime in 2020. The SUV will be imported into the country via a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kit and assembled in the brand's Aurangabad facility.

The Skoda Karoq SUV is based on Volkswagen's MQB platform. This is the same architecture seen on other products such as the Kodiaq, Octavia and the Superb. The Karoq will be 4,382mm in length, 1,814mm in width and 1,605m in height. The Karoq SUV also has a wheelbase measuring 2,638mm and a ground clearance of 200mm. The Skoda Karoq offers a decently large boot space of 521-litres, which can further be extended to 1,810-litres by folding the rear seats.

In terms of design, the Karoq borrows a number of design cues from its larger sibling, the Kodiaq. The Karoq comes with Skoda's signature front grille, sweptback LED headlamps, fog lamps below the headlamp unit (similar to the Kodiaq), wrap-around LED taillights and integrated reflectors on the rear bumper.

Reports also suggest that the Skoda Karoq SUV might be offered with three engine variants: one petrol and two diesel units. This includes 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit, a 2.0-litre diesel and a probable BS-VI compliant 1.6-litre diesel unit mated to a DSG dual-clutch automatic as well.

Thoughts On The Skoda Karoq In India

The Skoda Karoq SUV will be positioned below the flagship Kodiaq SUV in the company's India lineup. Once launched in India, expect the Karoq to be offered as a premium SUV in the segment, with a price ranging between Rs 25 - 30 lakh, ex-showroom. This price range will make it more expensive than all its other rivals in the country, such as the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta and the recently launched Tata Harrier SUV.
