Skoda Kamiq Spotted In India Ahead Of Its Debut At 2020 Auto Expo: Spy Pics & Details
Skoda is gearing up to introduce an all-new SUV to the Indian market. Called the Kamiq, has been spotted in India, ahead of it debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. The spy images showcase the SUV's interior and exterior details.
The spy images from Autocar India reveal interior features of the upcoming SUV. This includes a flat-bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, infotainment touchscreen system, part-digital instrument cluster with MID, and climate control stack. The company might have brought the upcoming SUV for testing in India conditions.
The Kamiq will be based on the company's MQB-A0 platform. However, the company is expected to make changes to the platform for the India market, to offer more wheelbase. This makes the India-spec models roomier, than the internationally sold models.
The Kamiq is Skoda's smallest SUV on the company's vehicle portfolio, and is already being sold across various international markets. The Kamiq will share its underpinnings with other vehicles from the Volkswagen family.
The global-spec model of the SUV is offered with three engine options. This includes a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine available in two states of tune: lower-spec unit produces 94bhp and 175Nm of torque, while the higher-spec engine churns out 114bhp and 200Nm of torque. Other engine options include, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol-engine producing 201bhp and 250Nm of torque, and a 1.6-litre diesel engine four-cylinder engine churning out 155bhp and 250Nm of torque.
All engines are offered with either a five-speed or six-speed manual transmission depending on the trim. The company is also offering an optional seven-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission with all the power units as well.
The Kamiq SUV is loaded with features including, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. Other features include, LED headlamps and tail-lamps with dynamic turn indicators, roof rails, premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, and smartphone connectivity to control the SUV's features through an application.
The SUV is also equipped with standard safety features. This includes, airbags, ISOFIX mounts, front and rear sensors, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, ABS with EBD and more. We expect all the above features and powertrain options to be carried for the India-bound model as well.
The upcoming Kamiq SUV will be the first product to come from the Volkswagen Group's India 2.0 programme. VW will also add a compact-SUV to their India line-up based on the Skoda Kamiq as well. The brands are expected to follow up with introducing two sedans to the Indian market using the MQB A0 IN platform.
The Kamiq is expected to go on sale in India by 2021, after its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. By the time the Kamiq is introduced in India, it will be joined by new and existing rivals in the segment including, the Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks and the Hyundai Creta.
Thoughts About The Skoda Kamiq Spotted In India
Skoda and Volkswagen are bringing a new change to the Indian market, with restructuring dealerships and introducing new vehicles. The SUV segment in India, has seen a substantial increase in demand, and the company aims to use the market to drive sales by catering to the current trend. The Kamiq SUV looks spectacular in its global form, we hope the same design is carried to the India-bound model as well.
