New Renault Triber Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga — Which MPV Makes More Sense?
Renault globally unveiled the Triber MPV recently in Delhi. The new Renault Triber is the company's brand-new compact-MPV offering for the Indian market and is expected to go on sale in the coming months.
Being a sub-4 metre compact-MPV, the Triber comes with compact dimensions, all-new design and an impressive overall stance. Renault has also packed the Triber with a bunch of features and equipment; making it an attractive package.
With the launch of the Renault Triber expected in the coming months, we put the compact-MPV up against the popular Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, to determine how the new Renault offering stacks-up against its competition. Here is a brief comparison between the two rivals in the MPV segment:
Design
The Renault Triber MPV comes with the French carmakers latest design language. It is part of the same CMF-A platform which underpins the entry-level Kwid hatchback. However, thanks to the new design, the Triber manages to look stylish and offer an impressive stance even with its compact dimensions. The MPV also feels completely proportionate from all angles, which further makes it an attractive looking compact-MPV.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, on the other hand, comes with a more aggressive-looking design. The car is characterised by sharp angles and cuts; providing a sporty yet premium appeal to the new Ertiga. The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is part of the brand's HEARTECT platform, which makes it more lighter and stronger than its previous-generation model. The overall design of the new Ertiga also provides a rather longer and wider appearance than it actually is.
Dimensions
Being a compact-MPV, the Renault Triber is small compared to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in most aspects. Here is a brief comparison between the Renault Triber and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in terms of its overall dimensions, wheelbase, ground clearance and boot space:

Engine Specifications
The Renault Triber is available with a single engine option. This comes in the form of a 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 73bhp and 96Nm of torque. The engine is further mated to either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is available with a range of three engines: one petrol and two diesel. This comes in the form of the new 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines, along with the smaller 1.3-litre diesel as well.
Both the 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines are brand new, developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki. Both of them first debuted on the flagship Ciaz sedan.
The 1.5-litre petrol produces 104bhp and 138Nm of torque; the 1.5-litre diesel, on the other hand, churns out 95bhp and 225Nm of torque. The smaller 1.3-litre diesel puts out 89bhp and 200Nm of torque.
Maruti Suzuki also offers the Ertiga with a choice of three transmission units: five-speed manual, four-speed automatic and the new six-speed automatic.
Here is a brief comparison between the specifications of the Triber and the Ertiga:

Prices
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is priced at a starting amount of Rs 7.44 lakh while the top-spec variant goes all the way up to Rs 12 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom (Delhi). However, the Renault Triber, being a sub-4 metre MPV will be more affordable. Although official prices aren't announced yet, we expect it to be priced in the range of around Rs 5.5 to Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom.
Thoughts On The Renault Triber Vs Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
The Renault Triber might be a smaller MPV compared to the Maruti Ertiga, however, the French carmaker has packed the compact-MPV with a host of features and equipment. This along with its impressive styling and the affordable price tag, definitely makes it an extremely attractive model. Our final decision, however, will be reserved till after the launch of the Renault Triber in the market.
