Renault Triber MPV Unveiled In India For Global Markets — Premium MPV On A Budget?

The Renault Triber MPV has been unveiled for global markets. The Renault Triber incorporates the Renaut family design language and comes with several aesthetic and functional features that are first-in-class.

Renault has said that the Triber would be launched in the Indian market before the end of 2019, and this would mostly be during the festive season. One look at the Renault Triber and anybody can figure out that it is a Renault even without looking at the prominently placed diamond-shaped logo.

The design is very much in-line with other Renault family models like the Captur and the upcoming Duster. It features muscular lines, a large bumper, and a typical Renault three slat grille with chrome elements.

The bumper is chunky and gets integrated fog lamp housings with horizontal LED DRLs in them. The sweptback headlamp looks premium and upmarket. The overall silhouette surely stands out in comparison to the competition thanks to the new alloy wheels, the character line, the flared wheel arches and the roof rails.

At the sides is a matte black cladding and the flared wheel arches too get matte-black cladding. The rear of the Renault Triber is pleasant to look at. It features unique tail lamps with the turn signal indicators and the reverse lamp integrated into it.

Right between the tail lamps is the Renault logo with the word Triber in bold, spaced out letters. The Renault Triber is based on a modified version of the CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid. It has been strengthened and modifications have been made to make it larger as the Triber is a seven-seater.

The Renault Triber measures 3,990mm in length, 1,739mm in width and 1,643mm in height and comes with a wheelbase of 2,636mm. The insides of the car are pretty spacious and roomy. According to Renault, seven people would be comfortably be able to sit inside the Renault Triber.

There is seating for seven people but, it isn't as spacious as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and to be fair, the Renault Triber will be a lot cheaper than the Ertiga, hence it isn't even direct competition.

The dial on the left is for the tachometer while the entire right side of the instrumentation has the fuel gauge, temperature gauge and the tell-tale indications. It features a 3.5-inch MID that displays the speed and other important information.

Infotainment duties are handled by a 7.8-inch touchscreen system. It comes loaded with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also boasts of a few other smart functions like driver economy rating and driving-style coaching to help the driver drive more economically.

Occupants in the third row get a dedicated AC vent which is once again a premium feature for the price it will be sold at. The third row of seats can be folded or removed to make space for additional luggage whenever required. With the third row removed, the Renault Triber boasts of a 625-litre boot capacity. It goes down to just 84-litres with all seven seats up.

The Renault Triber is powered by a reworked version of the same 1.0-litre engine that is found under the bonnet of the Renault Clio and Sandero. It is a three-cylinder, naturally aspirated motor with a maximum power output of 71bhp and a peak torque output of 96Nm. The engine is available either with a 5-speed manual or a 5-Speed Easy-R AMT gearbox.

Thoughts On Renault Triber MPV Unveiled In India For The Global Market

Renault claims to have designed the Triber after taking feedback from over 500 customers. Hence, it has been made practical, comfortable, attractive and affordable. The prices for the Renault Triber have not yet been revealed but we expect it to undercut the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga by being priced in the region of Rs 5 to Rs 8 lakh.

This cleverly places it between the Datsun Go+ and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga - a space that currently has no MPV in it. By doing so and providing premium features in it, Renault will easily eat into the sales of its competitors.
